I have an o3DS XL that I'm thinking of selling. It has a NAND reading/writing hardmod, and has A9LH setup, with Luma3DS on sysnand, from following the Plailect guide.

I have system transferred it to my n3DS XL and also moved the contents of the SD card to my new console. The o3DS XL now has up-to-date firmware, but is otherwise completely blank, with a blank SD too. I have backups of all the relevant bits and pieces generated while following the guide.

I want to supply it to the buyer in such a state that it is usable as an A9LH CFW console, as if it's just gone through the Plailect guide.

I also want to supply anything that the buyer might need to unbrick it (bearing in mind it has a NAND mod), but I don't really want them to have access to games (tickets) I previously had installed, or my NNID, or my Wi-Fi password etc.

So, what should I put onto the SD card, and what additional info/files should I supply to be helpful?

Also any advice on selling - do ebay allow CFW 3DSes?

Leave the SD card as-is so it can boot to A9LH. Supply a current NAND backup and the OTP along with their md5 sums on two different media (e.g. flash memory and DVD-R). That's all your buyer will need if they need to unbrick.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Oh another thing to mention about providing the NAND backups: you should copy the NAND backup back from the media on which you are providing it and restore it to check you have made a valid copy and it didn't corrupt while copying. So, say you burned it to a DVD, you should then copy it from the DVD to your computer and restore it using the hardmod. If it worked, then you know the copy on the DVD is valid.

Thanks. So if I backup the NAND as it is now, in 11.1.0 (which is actually something the buyer could do when they get it), and supply the OTP, that is sufficient?

There's no need to supply a NAND backup from 2.1.0 or 9.2.0 for example? The reason I ask is because I do have NAND backups of 2.1.0 and 9.2.0 but they are from when it had all my tickets on, which I'd rather not give. I can probably downgrade it again to those versions and take fresh NAND backups, but don't want to if it's not necessary.

That will be sufficient for unbricking, yes. As long as you have the OTP and a recent NAND backup, there's really no need to supply anything else.

Personally, I have kept backups of 2.1 and 9.2 just in case a new type of hack is developed which requires them. Of course, there is no risk to downgrading if you have a hardmod, but re-flashing a 2.1/9.2 NAND backup is of course easier than downgrading. It's not necessary to supply them, but it wouldn't hurt. If you have the time/patience, you could re-flash each one, format the NAND with system format, then dump the NAND again. That would result in backups of 2.1 and 9.2 without any of your data present.

Regarding the tickets thing, install tikSweep, run it, then delete tikSweep with FBI using the Delete Title and Ticket option.

I will see if I can supply clean backups of 2.1.0 and 9.2.0, for maximum convenience to the buyer. If I was buying such a system, that's the sort of dedication from the seller that I would like to see.

I see that the guide says not to do a system format on firmware less than 6.0.0 on 2DS, but I guess it will safe to do it on o3DS XL?

I assume system format is just as effective as tikSweep?

Actually I didn't know about not doing a system format on <6.0.0 2ds. o3DS is the same hardware as 2ds afaik so it might still cause problems. You could try it and restore via hard mod if it doesn't work.

I I'd say put a high capacity memory card and install a whole wack of games. Your customer will be like O_O so much games and you will be like $_$ I'm not joking.

2ds released with 6.0.0; firmware below that is technically only made for o3ds [no provisions made for no 3d] - so it would be fine with a o3ds.

Depending on the price, I might be interested. I already have an o3DS with A9LH, but it is a launch date model and it is showing age. Hinges are pretty wore, the 3D slider works when it wants (and sometimes when you DONT!), the thumbstick pad keeps falling off, and the top screen has a crack in it that doesn't affect playability, but is very annoying to look at when it is your primary source of entertainment other than a 5 inch phone screen and 14 television channels, 5 of which are PBS and affiliates.

Edit:
Nevermind. Shipping from the UK would probably cost more than the console is worth and I don't feel like dealing with region changing. I'll keep looking. Thanks though!

I might be interested in buying this since im after a O3DS XL with a Hardmod (since i cant be bothered to do it myself if i get one.)
If its a UK 3DS thats great we share the same region. One question is how much you selling it for (including shipping (AUS) and if you will sell it to me.

Doing a system format on a 2DS below v6 will leave you stuck on the initial Setup where you have to put your 3D slider ON.
It's a software brick but can be solved with Recovery Mode.
This happens because 2DS ws never supposed to work with FW below v6.

Even worst is when doing the 2.1 downgrade on a N3DS. If you are on 2.1 and close the lid for sleep mode, your console will be UNRECOVERABLY bricked.
Something to do with the MCU controller.

Just FYI.

I almost shut the lid on my N3DS when installing A9LH lol

Thanks for everyone's help on this. I have now listed this on ebay at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131950345290 if anyone is interested. I didn't supply a clean 2.1.0 backup in the end, but I've supplied everything such that someone will be able to make their own if they wish.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
