Hacking Save Nintendo WiFi - A project to save online servers for Wii (and DS) games

I was wondering if anyone has any interest in bringing back the News & Forecast Channel. Because if you all wanted that, I can potentially bring back both channels with updated data because i've figured out how to host DNS servers and make the Wii download data from those channels, I think.

By the way, heres an icon from the Forecast Channel that was never used:

I agree: since the nintendo letterbox spotpass thing went down (and that was thanks to a bunch of jerks sharing porn on it... :hateit:) I really need another way of communicating to a friend form something. I initially thought of the Wii Message board too, but thanks to official wifi going down, that's useless too... So yes, Please consider bringing back wii message board! :)

The game doesn't work, because it tries to connect *.mmp3.demonware.net. So it's not possible without replacing the demonware server.

You'll need to have already made packet captures from when the official server was still up, and had carefully documented them. If the game connected over SSL, you would have needed to have performed a MITM attack to document the traffic. This would have involved modifying the game client.

With those captures, you can begin to implement a server which provides the game with the responses it expects. The server is a state machine and will not always give the exact same response. (Otherwise, what good is it?) So you'll need to understand how it's affected by client activity.

Question: The Online of games nobody collected packets from is lost forever, or is there a way of getting them to work?

If you're good with debugging assembly code, you can piece together what kind of responses the game expects, and how they're used.

We have found out the basic functionality of the Gamespy servers. That's the reason, that so many games are enabled for Wiimmfi. However, many games do specific things and some games connect other servers. And without analysing the traffic its impossible to find out the protocol. But with this analysis it is not easy and maybe also impossible.

Personally I think it would be great to have the News and Weather channels back. I know a while back people didn't seem too interested when they went away. But personally I thought they were handy. After watching something on Netflix I would check the weather for tomorrow.

The message board would be great as well, but I doubt that is high on the priority.

I know I haven't been around much as of late and trying to catch up on the developments. :)

I'd also like the Weather Channel back mostly for Nights Journey of Dreams compatibility. That's the only I know of that used the Weather Channel. If there were any others, I'd like to know.

There were a few others. Another I know of is the Tiger Woods golf games. I am not sure about all of them, but I know 10 has the option of mirroring your local weather.

Yes this has been asked before. You need to use a NAND dump from your own Wii. The Dolphin one was banned due to so many cheaters using it.

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
The 2006 versión was made when the flash portal was made

Many people thought it was lost, but was discovered that he hid it on the same page.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, although the "secrets" system where the game was has been removed. Also pico vs uberkids had a netplay versión that was shutdown, although the swf file has been found
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector. P.s. this was on the archived Pico page from 2000.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's been there for a long time, too. People who search for lost media don't look hard enough lmao.

@SylverReZ, also the pico 2 demos used to be only for the newgrounds patrons but they are on internet archive too (https://archive.org/download/picos_school_2)

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
Iirc the demos were removed from newgrounds in 2022
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, or well only the demo with mindchamber's style was on newgrounds

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
Fun fact @SylverReZ: iirc one of the goals on the fnf Kickstarter stated that pico 2 would be finished but the Kickstarter didnt get enough money for that goal to be fullfiled
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, FNF sucks, their community is toxic as hell.

@SylverReZ its a single player game

@The Real Jdbye, Yea but it has a shitton of mods with their own songs and stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@The Real Jdbye, and quite a lot of people involved in those mods get cancelled
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Newgrounds wasn't the birth of FNF; rather, it was games where you beat up celebrities and parodies.
