Guys...how the hell do you get a 150 combo going? Seems nearly impossible...
Use battle skills (one doubles the combos made) and don't kill generals since that will make all the other guys run off and if you can, stay close to a camp so you can easily get people when they come.

Isn't it a bit misleading calling it a button masher? This is no 'Final Fight' as there's strategy and tactics at play along the map isn't there? I mean you can't just go in and go all Haggar on everyone and think it will work out. Weren't some of these games kind of like dynasty warriors too where you get the weird map and have to tactically move around then get into button mashing combat fights or am I at that part getting confused?

I've been eying the game but I'm just not sure if it's my thing.

That's totally understandable and I realise you have to re-do missions to get somewhere but that to me just isn't all that interesting. I'm not saying any other part of the game is bad but you obviously need to be a real fan of the series to bother with all that and keep interest in it.

Agree and disagree. I agree, in that you're probably either going to love it or hate it, but I wasn't trying to imply that it requires you to run through stages multiple times. Now, I haven't actually played this latest game, but from my experience with the Warriors games, you have to get a feel for manipulating the battlefield. If you're not capturing bases fast enough or conquering in an order that helps to demoralize your enemy and/or boost your own side, it's easy to find these games impossible. I think a lot of reviewers never really wrap their head around the big picture of these games. You can't simply hack and slash without any rhyme or reason is my only point. Once you get the gist of the entire conquest, however, these games tend to be a lot of fun. If you think of it as sort of a Risk meets whack-a-mole, you're well on your way to getting it.

I'm about halfway through Chapter 2 and so far I'm enjoying it. The plot makes little to no sense as I seem to swap sides like a scitzophrenic Jack Sparrow, but hacking people into bits never seems to get old. I love how the pace of the battle can change at a moment's notice. Example, one mission I played earlier required me to escort an officer back to the castle as things weren't going well. I couldn't do it in time thanks to some...complications, and the next thing I know my base is crawling with enemy officers all trying to repurpose my face as a cheese board.

Yeah, that battle skill can help, but I've also managed to do it without that just by attacking a bit and then using my ultimate musou or whatever it's called when you have full spirit gauge and gives that extra bit on the end of your musou attack.

Picked this up yesterday and I have to say it's pretty awesome. Took me a while to see it as a more of a strategy game than a game with just an okay combat system, but it is impressive.
My only gripe is with the difficulty settings. 'Normal' and 'Easy' don't really present a challenge, and 'Hard' is much the same way until you have to fight a boss (or miniboss), at which point you get your butt kicked seemingly out of nowhere. The attacks come at you without any space to block in-between and to me, that seems a little 'not fluid'. Losing anywhere between half to three quarters of your health with no ability to prevent it from happening, and often no nearby health-ups, is kind of irritating after you've spent half an hour cutting through opposing armies.
That shouldn't really discourage you from buying the game though, as levelling up and acquiring new weapons counters this. It's all about development and it's a nice, long, immersive title that you can sit and enjoy.
I'm quite shocked at how hard it is to find this game compared to other 3DS titles. I'm not saying it's exactly difficult, but for example: there are 10 items for 'Samurai Warriors: Chronicles' on eBay UK right now compared to the 52 for 'Street Fighter 3DS' and 24 for 'Rayman 3DS'. Similarly, Amazon UK themselves don't stock the game ('Startup Media' do) and when I went in to buy it from Blockbuster yesterday, there were only three there on the bottom shelf.
The 'expert gamers' that served me were talking to one another about how the company that made the game had their buildings vandalised and graffitied with 'you make shit games'. I felt like raging at them. The way in which they said it came across as being indirectly aimed at me. No doubt they're the '360 hardc0re gam3r Call of Duty' kings that know everything about games (and I'm not trying to offend 360 owners here, I want one myself).

So i was thinking of getting a 3DS. This game was on top of my list of release titles, so I have a few questions.
First, is the game worth the price?
Second, how long is the single player story mode of this game?
and last, will there be a online Multiplayer, or just single player?
1. Long, very long. I couldn't say exactly how many hours but there's plenty of stuff to do and 'sub-missions' in stages.
2. Pretty sure there's no online multiplayer.
Adding to this after playing the game some more, I'm taking back what I said about the difficulty. It soon steps up as you go on.
My closing comment on SW: Chronicles is that it's a lengthy title requiring a reasonable amount of perseverance from the buyer. It might be hard to stick to this toward the beginning, where everything seems so easy, but keep on going and you'll find yourself enjoying the game more and more.
This is actually what I like so much about this purchase. The fact that unlike a lot of games, it gets more interesting as you keep playing rather than more boring.
IMO, it is totally undeserving of the mediocre reviews some websites have given it and kills the proposition of the 3DS having no decent launch titles.

i totally loved that game from the first time i put it in my 3ds
what first amazed me were the some what the lvl of the 3D effects
when at the begging i cound kill a fly my character was being hacked and killed like crazy which seems like he was being thrown of the screen
the thing is i totally hate strategy genre games
but this game compines strategic ellements with hack and slash theory
moreover it feels like and RPG as you can renovate you character from top to bottom
change clothes, change weapons or you can just move a completely different character in the battle
which comes down to this the variety of normal/musou moves or the special abilities are way to many as you can use many characters in battle
the fun thing is that in order for you to win a battle you cant do that by just killing your opponents
you have to kill generals, use strategy, complete bonus missions, protect your own generals and also not letting your own character from being killed in battle
it can become a bit difficult but you dont have to replay missing to get stronger so you can complete newst missions
you can win a mission just by being carefull and using your characters to complete the special bonus missions

Exactly! Although it's a hack-and-slash game, strategy is absolutely necessary. It supplements the mindless beatings and makes you use your head a little. And in all fairness, it was wrong of me to say the beatings were mindless... you really have to know what attacks to use and when to use them when you progress further.

Anyone else feel so pro when they finish a stage?
You know, the stages where it asks you to do five thousand time limited missions in one go?

Gracia is awesome.

I now feel like playing Samurai Warriors 3 again but after playing this, SW3 will be too easy.

I am at the end of the 2nd chapter on normal difficulty, and I haven't felt that the challenge has been really out of the ordinary. I haven't been replaying stages for extra exp, or anything like that. I've just played straight through. It usually takes me 2-3 trys per stage, but that seems reasonable, and what I would expect on a normal difficulty.

I love him! I thought he was pretty cool in Warriors Orochi 2, but seeing more of his personality in this game makes me love him so much more!

Some people would think that taking 2 or 3 tried per stage was a sign of it getting quite challenging.
I'm only most of the way through chapter 2 myself and there have only been a couple of stages that I haven't passed on the first try but it's been a close thing sometimes and I often fail a few of the missions within the stage and occasionally lose one of my player officers so I'm feeling quite challenged.

Do you unlock new missions through StreetPass on this game?
It's something I've been wondering.
I believe it's just simulated fights through streetpass.
You can definitely get new battle scenarios through spotpass though. The first one has already come out in Japan.

Heh I know what you mean. But if you wanna just walk through all the stages on first try, that's what easy mode is for.

But a lot of people have gotten used to the idea that "normal" difficulty should actually be easy.

I've just now achieved the ranking of Excellent in my relationship with Nobunaga!
He's the first one that I've achieved that with, and now I get to use his weapons for my character if I want!

It's an option in the shop, same menu as changing clothes and armour.
You should be able to use the weapons of any characters you have excellent friendship with.

This game gets pretty damn hard even on easy mode after a while. I've played all mine on Normal so far, I don't even wanna think about hard mode as I tried that once and epic fail -_-. You have to be very skilled if you are competing on that mode and I'd adore you =P

Anyway this game is okay, A bit difficult for me to follow the storyline, I dunoo maybe it's just me but the field battles are amazing.
