(Sad tale) DMG GB LCD replacement ?

I left my bag in school.In my bag was my heart beloved GameBoy.Somebody thought it was funny to smack the LCD Screen.Now I cannot find replacements, besides 40 BUCKS ?!
The legend says that I have to replace the whole front board, other say that I have not to.Others in turn say that the only way to replace the LCD, is to take it from another GameBoy.

Can someone please give me a definitive answer ?

just replace the screen and make the investment to get a backlit screen.
get yourself a nice front lens replacement.
yes old parts are expensive. they are not made anymore.
