Reuters claims Vivendi takeover of Ubisoft is to happen this year

It looks like things are getting even more bleak for Ubisoft, as Vivendi slowly advances in on a hostile takeover of the company. The London-based financial news source, Reuters, claims that reliable sources have said that Vivendi will be acquiring more video game studios this year, starting with Ubisoft and Havas (the latter of which is an advertising group). There will be a shareholder's meeting next Tuesday, where more details about Vivendi's future plans will be revealed. Although, it appears Vivendi itself isn't without its own problems, as Reuters also discussed that shares for the company have fallen, and market analysts are wary of the lack of transparency with Vivendi. Only time will tell what will happen for sure, and what this means for Ubisoft, but prospects for Yves Guillemot to remain as CEO at Ubi are looking bleak.

I don't know much about economics, but isn't this taking a while for a hostile takeover?

Hopefully Ubisoft doesn't get bought and then gutted down due to some financial shenanigans.
I'm not a big consumer of their games but they still have decent stuff in their catalogue and really aren't the worst out there.(Also still waiting for BGE 2)

Ohhhhhh. I'm so not sorry for Ubisoft, which totaly never hostile takeover any brand or company ;)
Hopefully they sell the rights of The Settlers, Anno/Dawn of Discovery and Far Cry to a better fitting company.

With the exception of Trials i honestly can't say I really like any of the franchises Ubisoft have anything to do with, even then Trials Fusion was no where near as good as Trials Evolution.

The Settlers II 10th Anniversary was amazing, however that was released 10 years ago now...

I guess if your a fan of Assassin's Creed or the Tom Clancy games then it might be worrying.

Rayman has always been great, especially in recent years with Origins and Legends. All the Rabbids stuff however was shit, and really only served to hurt the overall Rayman brand.

And of course South Park the Stick of Truth was fantastic, and I have to assume that The Fractured But Hole will also be fantastic.

Well i never was really attached to ubisoft. I played rayman games, only one i like was rayman 2 and rayman 3, then something about rabbits was involved, and then they went back to square one with origins, much like donkey kong country returns. Other than that it was modern 3d prince of persia, and then i guess about it, maybe a few assassians creed games, nothing too huge.

Ubisoft owns Konami, who owns Hudson Soft. NOOOO MY BOMBERMAN GAMES

wait a second Konami also does the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise of games and the tcg (evil bastards we won't get a localization of Saikyo card battle T.T) the games suck (usually) but i worry about the TCG if the TCG is untouched I'll be ok (only played ACR for 360 when it came out free this month
