--Setup--
Console: NTSC-U (v3.1U)
Chip: Wiikey 1.9g (region override on / 3x read speed)

--steps taken--
1) Burned DVD5 version without any patching. (sony DVD-R 2x)
2) did the 15% trick, unplugged a tiny bit after the "w" in Power.
3) Repaired DVD9 files using QuickPar.
4) Burned the DVD9 with these settings;
- Drive: Matshita UJ-840D (firmware v1.02)
- Program: ImgBurn v2.3.2.0
- Media: Verbatim DVD+R DL (made in Singapore)
- Burn speed: 2.4x
- ISO Patching: only did the new Brick blocker patch. (no regionfrii)

--results--
DVD5: read the disc without problem.
15% trick: No duplicate channels / oddities of any sort.
DVD9: read the disc without problem/hesitation. no errors as of yet. (I just watched the opening movie to see if movies work).

Will update if I find anything else, but I hope this helps someone

I'm kind of surprised that everything worked on the first try... guess it pays to do your homework

My DVD9 Burn failed.

Memorex 2.4x DVD+R DL burned at 2.4x using IMGBurn
ND-3530A
Wiikey 1.9g
DMS Launch day
No bitset, default IMGBurn settings all default

The game comes up with a green screen as soon as I boot, right after the inital loading.

Should I try 1x now or am I screwed?

2 burns:

LG and BigDog drivers
Verbatim 2.4x Taiwan
Boots fine sometimes, crashes randomly sometimes to greenscreen sometimes full crash

It's beyond annoying and completely unplayable but it likes to trick me into thinking it's going to work before crashing at the end of random stages.

(Already ran through the DVD5 one successfully)
1) Burned DVD9 version with no patching. (Memorex DVD+R DL) 2x speed
2) I skipped the Brickblock step because the DVD9 iso gave me this error "cvn-dsbx.iso isn't a valid Wii ISO File"
3) Did the 15% trick, unplugged after the "w" in Power.
4) Turned system back on.
5) Disc error

Aw shit.

--results--
It's not working now... I looked back at my files and saw that there was a file called cvn-dsbx.par2
This is odd, when I extract the image... wouldn't it have told me if something was incomplete?
And how would it have even get to the update screen if it wasn't really complete anyway?

Now looking into the program QuickPar, but unsure what I should do on the configuration option "preferred block size".
I went with the 2nd option. Ok the file size was extremely small and I think it was just an extra dud file that got renamed during a re-download, because the sfv file is telling me that my list is fine and already complete...

---overall conclusion---
What should I do? Does it need a Brickblocked DL DVD now? I already tried running the iso in Brickblocker, but it tells me
"cvn-dsbx.iso isn't a valid Wii ISO File".

The size of my ISO is 7.92 GB (8,511,160,320 bytes). Is this what everybody else has?

I'm pretty sure you've got the right iso, the file size is correct and I recall people mentioning that the Par2 files aren't needed. Since you did the 15% trick I assume you don't want the dupe channels, so a brickblocked dvd9 is needed. (Unless you use your brickblocked dvd5 then swap to dvd9 at the brawl menu) If your brickblocked dvd9 still doesn't work the problem is most likely something to do with the combination of burner and dual layer dvd. Verbatim+R and Memorex+R seem to be the favourites, if these don't work try a different burner.

The only things that I can think of would be these:

1 - If you went the usenet way make sure you use QuickPar to repair any incomplete parts.
(default settings on QuickPar should work, just click on "open" -> browse for the "Par2" file without any volume on it that came with the Nzb, and let it run its course.)

2 - Make sure you use the most recent version of Brick Blocker. (7.92GB is the correct size, no file chopping needed).

Thanks, it looks like there is a newer version. 1.3R2. I had just 1.3, so I'll see if that works.

I used Memorex DVD + R DL media burned at 2.4x on a Matsushita/Panasonic burner. Haven't had a stutter, crash, or anything go wrong yet. Just got finished playing SSE for 2 and a half hours. Built some levels, played some Masterpieces, no hiccups whatsoever.

So if you're afraid that your Memorex discs might not work right, just burn them slow with imgburn and hope you've got a decent burner ; )

EDIT: Oh, and no bitsetting as this burner doesn't support it. (it's a slot-loading laptop burner, can't ask for too much)

I tried that swap trick where i go all the way to the logo page and then i swap the DVD5 dvd for the DL one. Before that when i tried it alone without the swap,i got a white screen.Anyway so i waited a few secs. so it would load up a little bit (cause i tried it previously and the music in the menu didn't load up properly.)
Then i went to the story mode section.Clicked the sub.I killed Kirby and it just gave me a black screen after that.i have a Wiinja deluxe.
BTW:
I burned it with "IMGBURN" 2.4x(In which i got the message that claimed it was a successful burn.) and i also tried clone cd but it craped out on me like around 72-75%
The media i used was a sony DVD+R DL 8.5gb

.....What to do?................What to do?...........EPIC HMMZ >>

I've seen that a lot of people updated to 100% using DVD5. Maybe I missed one, but have anyone tried updating to 100% on a DVD9 with no problems or flaws? Thank you.

Yeah. I've read of plenty of people updating with the DVD9 disc. Problem is, if you can't get a reliable DL burnt, then the upgrade, of course, either won't run or, worse yet, you give you problems "mid way".

So somehow make sure your DVD9 is good before updating from that. Unfortunately, I don't quite think you can tell if your burn is good or not if the only practical way to test it is to play it ... and you can't play it w/o updating ... so catch22. Maybe is a good suggestion to update from the single layer media. That way, I'm guessing you run a lower risk. But if your DVD9 burn is good, there are no problems upgrading from it directly.

Console: PAL Wii 3.1e
Modchip: Wiikey
Wiikey Firmware: 1.9g
Media: TDK Double Layer DVD+R DL 8x
Burner: TSSCORP (el-cheapo Samsung supermulti burner)
Burning program: Nero 7
Speed: 6x

I used the Caravan DVD9 and burnt 2 backups, 1 with Brick Blocker, and another without. Curiously tried the BB version first, as my Wii is a 'virgin' console (no dupes, no 15% trick) and although the image shows in the top-left, when starting it crashes at black screen.

Put in clean backup, updated to 15% (at the 'w' in power) and unplugged wii. Reconnected, changed to 50hz, put in BB backup, and got into the game
smile.gif
Turned off deflicker (this completely slowed down the wii) set wii back to 60hz, rebooted, and now working perfectly.

Played 3+ hours straight on subspace emmisary with flawless gameplay and movies! Played through classic mode twice with Mario, and Ike, and also played online, which was surprisingly lag-free!

All in all, a brilliant experience
smile.gif
Was a little scared doing th 15% trick, but it worked out, no dupes!

I believe that those with Wiikey that are experiencing issues such as freezing, errors, stuttering and crashes with the game, really need decent media and to check updates. Burning slow also doesn't necessarily mean a better burn either. You should aim for the average speed of your rated media for the most reliable burn. E.g, my TDK DVD+DL's are rated 8x, the lowest it could burn was 4x, but I chose 6x, and burns always come out flawless.

Success Now…

Drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-5540A 2.01 (ATA)
PC: Acer Laptop
Media: RITEK-D01-01 (Memorex branded) DVD+R DL
Current Profile: DVD+R DL
Speed: 2.4x (only speed could do it at)
Console: Wii Pal 3.1E (100% updated from DL cvn.dsbx.iso)
ISO: Untouched no BB.
Mod: Wiikey 1.9g region free enabled.
Lens: Has been cleaned, this helped a little on previous burn of the ISO.

Working with no lock ups at 50 Hz. All modes working but videos are choppy.

At 60Hz 480p its working flawlessly, game was played single player through to end credits. Played with four people in multiplayer and have unlocked two characters so far.
We played for just under four hours with no problems at all.
