Works flawlessly. It was extremely laggy at first, but as soon as I turned Deflicker off it ran smoothly

Chip: WiiD
Memorex DVD+R DL 2.4x
Burned all copies at 2x or 2.4x

Alright I tried this 4 times. Same result all 4 times.

First I did the single layer update 100%. I have dual channels.

Now.. first I burned using k3b (which another user mentioned). My copied burned fine. When I go to play it freezes with a white screen at the intro video. If use the single layer to get past the intro video and swap with the DL I can play everything the single layer allowed (but no DL content).

I have also tried, ImgBurn with the regular iso, same result. Used RegionFrii and burned again with ImgBurn, same result. I used Nero lastly (since WiiD updates say to use Nero, and when I did the last update only the DVD I burned with Nero worked), same result. All freeze at intro video, or work after I do a swap (but still freeze when you get to a video).

So... I am really confused. Hear me out on this...
Why would the intro video (which is clearly on the single layer) work fine? But freeze on the dual layer, when it can read the rest of the information on the first layer just fine? That does not make sense to me, that is why I used RegionFrii thinking there was some kind of check on the video. Guess I was wrong.

If anyone else has a WiiD or knows any other WiiD topics feel free to PM me here.

I am honestly thinking of switching to YAOSM 2.0.

WII NTSC-U
Done with 15% Update Trick (DVD5)

DVD9 boots Successfully.
Although it sounds painful(My Wii) whenever it tries to load something.
Transforming to Shiek takes quite a while....

I believe that those with Wiikey that are experiencing issues such as freezing, errors, stuttering and crashes with the game, really need decent media and to check updates.  Burning slow also doesn't necessarily mean a better burn either.  You should aim for the average speed of your rated media for the most reliable burn.  E.g, my TDK DVD+DL's are rated 8x, the lowest it could burn was 4x, but I chose 6x, and burns always come out flawless.

You are right that a slow burn does not equal to a better burn. It depends, once again, on the burner you use and the media you use. As a general rule I'm going to refer to "old slow burners" as those that are over 1.5 years old and topped at about 12x single layer speeds and to "new fast burners" to those that are up to 20X on single layer media less than 1.5 years old. Old slow media is media rated 2.4x to 6x. New, fast media, is media rated 8x and above.

--New, fast burners with new fast media-> try 4X first (2.4x produces WORSE results usually, as a general rule)
--New, fast burners with old slow media-> either 2.4x or 4x, you have to try for yourself.
--Old, slow burners with old slow media-> burn at 2,4x
--Old, slow burners with new fast media-> you may never get to work this right, as the media had not been formulated when your burner was manufactured. Update the firmware of your burner and try both, 2.4x and 4x. Or better yet, get a new burner for $35. Or get older media rated 2.4x-6x.

It's quite unheard of a burn done at 8x dual layer that was better than one done at 4X, but sometimes it was equal in quality. Above 8x, forget it. So as a general rule, don't burn above 4X. But there are plenty of burns that are WORSE at 2,4x than at 4x, so you know ...

I recommend those disks, at least they did the trick for me when Verbatim didn't. Oh and I burned at 4x speed

So let me make this clear to everybody. If you want a working SSBB DVD9 working , follow these instruction. (some of my friends with the errors you have ,have been fixed and SSBB working perfectly.
First my specs
Console : NTSC Wii 3.1U
Modchip : Wiikey
Wiikey Firmware : 1.9g
Media used : Memorex DVD+R DL 8x Speed
Burner used : Toshiba Burner from my Laptop DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer)
Burning program : Imgburn, newest version
Burnspeed : 2.4x
Screen : 60HZ
Previous Version of the Image: SSBB DVD5 Version, full update.

First of all, most of you already have the DVD5 version. If that is the case if you havent updated, please do so.
You will get duplicate channels but thats fine. It can be erased.
If you have gotten the DVD5 to work then you have already configured your wiikey to region overide. Make sure to do so if you havent and save the settings thru the screen on the config disk.
Now onto burning, please leave everything on default, especially if you are using imgburn, if you dont have it GOOGLE it , its FREE.
Dont change any bitsetting, layer break or anything.
Simply put the disk in the drive and Burn at 2.4x. PLease if you have Memorex , use it. My friends were using verbatim and sony disks and they were not working. 5 confirmed of my friends are running SSBB on memorex disks. Go to Frys electronics or frys.com, They are 19.99 for 15disks not a bad deal. Burn ........ If any part of your DVD5 disks worked all you need to do is insert your dvd9 disk and it should work.
On a side not, if you are getting errors during play, dont fret. it will happen, the Wii Laser is not meant to read DL, that i what the 3.1 update was for. it is not your lens dirty, it wont run if you dont have the 3.1 update. Dont let Nintendo fool you.
Follow these directions and report successes and failures.
Remember a bad burn also affects your ability to play online.
Happy smashing, hope to see you guys online playing SSBB.

NTSC-U 3.1U, Wiikey 1.9g
ImgBurn @ 2.4x
Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-842 (laptop)
Updated 100%

Originally I used Verbatum DVD+R DL, I was able to update my console, see the SSBB channel, but the game crashed during the intro video.

Last night I picked up a spindle of Ridata DVD+R DL and the game works great!

Here we go...

Wii: NTSC-U
Firmware: 3.1
Burner: LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10A
Modchip: Wiikey 1.9g

Burned 2 copies and the two copies give me the same errors...

#1
Media: Philips DVD+R DL
Program: IMGburn
Speed: 2.4x

I played a lot, but when i try to play SSE give me the green text error, same occurs in the intro, i have to skip the intro to play the game...and ehte error also occurs when you finish classic mode.
Well, i played for a few hours and then i turned off the wii...when i try to play again the green text error apears after a white screen, before the now loading.

#2
Media:Philips DVD+R DL
Program: Nero 8
Speed: 4x

Same thing of the first copy, but i didn't play that copy...the green text error apears after the white screen.

in the 2 copies i used region frii...can't make the config disc of the wiikey running.
____
I don't know what to do =///
can someone give me a light?

Maybe it was better if Nintendo split the disc in two DVD5 (one for main game and other for Subspace, since I think the majority of space is used by the movies). This would save a lot of problems (with the original copies, of course they dont bother to help piracy).

Wonder if my old GSA-4167B will do the job. I will wait the US dump.

You don't mention what chip you have, but if you have any other than wiikey, then regionfrii is not your "problem". if you have wiikey, this has autoregion turned off by default. You need to turn it of or, if you don't want to do this, use regionfrii.

But, the most likely cause of your problems is not either of this. It's your BURNER. I know you think it works fine, etc, but your friend's burner was able to produce a good copy on the media used and yours didn't.

Ask your friend to mail you a disc made in his burner, or try a neighbour's burner. But remember, most burners older than about 2 years do a sucky job on dual layer recording and they usually work even worse with new, high speed formulated media.

So long story short: it's not the media. it's not the burner. it's the right combination of media-burner that matter most.

And always use 2.4x recording speed for old burners/old media and 4X speed for new burners/new media.

Yeah, although Verbatims are the best in general, only one of their particular discs is truly outstanding. It's the one labeled 2.4x-6x made in singapore. The one labeled 8x is above average too, pretty good, but not as good. The one labeled Made in India is WELL BELOW AVERAGE and pretty crappy.

Other brands that generally produce good discs are TDK, Memorex and Taiyo Yuden. But all brands have good and bad "batches" or factories, so unfortunately a clear recommendation can't be made. You have to keep trying brands until you find one that your burner likes and that the wii can read.

I may have a solution. Have you tried to polish your DVD-DL with tools like Disc Repairers ?

Maybe i'm saying nonsense, but those "Disc repairers" polish the disc and remove a very little part of the disc surface so maybe it could help the Wii ...
