I've currently given up getting a DVD9 to boot by itself. Thing is, swapping method works flawlessly.

The DVD9 on its own gives me the 001 (Verbatim DVD-R DL burn@2x). Using the swapping method I have not had a single DRE, freeze, stuttering movies or anything. I find this very strange. How can it be so flawless yet still not boot?

I've played trough the first 15% of story mode, a couple of classic modes completed, some events, wifi play, vs...strange.

Try to burn your iso again and see if you can use +R DL media instead (make sure it doesn't say "made in india"--those suck) and try on a different burner. Also, changing your recording software could really help here, since you seem to have a problem with the media recognition part of the equation, rather than with the readability ("quality") of the burn. Try setting the book type to both, dvd-rom or dvd+r dl. with +r dl media burnt at 2.4x or 4x.

Unless you have a non wiikey chip. Then you may just not be able to get it to work except with exceptionally good burns (hard to get, almost impossible to recomend or predict how to get them) or by tweaking your wii's laser (not a generally recommended solution and one that should only be tried as a last option).

For those having problems running this game, you should try setting the layerbreak on the recording software (i.e. imgburn->write iso to dvd->tools->settings->write->layerbreak->user specified->2084960).

This is almost necessary for d2ckey users and some other non-wiikey chips.

Console: 3.1U
Chip: Wiikey 1.9g
Media: TDK +R DL. Burned it at 2.4x with a burner that came with a new computer.
Method: I set my Wiikey setting to Region Override On. Burned the DVD5 version of Brawl, let it update to 100%. The game screen loaded, and I switched to the DVD9 version. It worked flawlessly and I've played for maybe.. 20 hours in total without a single problem. Great game.

"Legendary" Verbatim Singapore discs didn't work for me...
I have a NEC Optiarc AD-7170S drive, and I did burns at 4x, 2.4x, and MAX.. Checked all with Nero DiscSpeed, and all but 1 seemed fine. Also burned one at 4x on my roommate's LG drive (unknown model) and it didn't work, but verified fine.

Grabbed a Cakebox of Memorex DVD+R DL (since other people with Optiarc had good luck with them, and burned one at 4x using Nero DiscSpeed... Works perfect. Watched the full intro movie, and played an hour of Subspace Emissary watching every movie. Load speeds seemed fine. Didn't slow down on movies, either.

I didn't even do the layer-break trick the Wiinja guys recommended. I might later, though... I've got 24 more discs XD

Disc info...
Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66

Fujifilm 2.4x DL discs

I got some options the first time I put the disc in and I selected the default options, since then, I get the loading screen then it goes to a white screen that looks like:

Dont believe him.
May just be a dirty laser or a bad burn.
Try again.
And maybe you dont have enogh space.
Check your Wii Memory. You need 150blocks for SSBB

Burn speed: 1x , 2.4x , 4x , 6x
Burner used: LG GSA-H55L, Pioneer DVR-109
Burner program: IMGBurn, Nero
Wiikey: 1.9g, regionfree on (and off w/regionFrii)
Wii: 3.1u, NTSC
15% trick: No, Dupes
Booktype: DVD-ROM
ISO: Regionfrii

Disc will spin up, but not boot. Tried everything...(except a hammer) Just gives me the ? error saying disc could not be read

Strange because I don't smoke, have no pets, have a very clean house, all the other backups work flawlessly, as do the originals.

Oh, the DVD5 version works perfectly, not one read error yet except ones caused by the missing layer.

Arita Dual Layer Media
2.4x Burn
Patched ISO with the no Dual Channels PFF patch.
NTSC-U Version
Sucsess! No errors what so ever!
Can't remember what Layer Break it was, it was the one everyone recommends anyway.

Also: I used Verbatims before, discs were gash so I bought some of these off my modder, I've burned Brawl and Mario Kart on them (I burned Mario Kart on this disc because I didn't have any DVD-R's.)

worked for a few weeks then stopped working. seem to be wii specific too (I test with a lot of hardware and discs)

I've used many other DL discs with no problems...

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
