NOTICE:

It has come to my attention that my old download links and instructions were within the gbatemp rules. I am not linking any actual roms, or full romfs files. I am only linking the individual edited files required to play Rising Sun & Waning Moon. If this is threatened to be taken down once more, I ask that mods first look and tell me why the Nova Sun/Umbra Moon mods do the same and have remained up.

Lets start off with some context. Currently, pk3DS allows us to edit the trainers and move sets of pokemon within Pokemon Sun and Moon. I decided to go ahead and create a challenge mode of sorts, similar to that of Pokemon Blaze Black/Volt White. Currently editing wild encounters!

Changes:
  • Trial Captains and Kahunas now all have teams of 6 Pokemon.
  • Level curve greatly changed. Team should be in high 70s/low 80s by the end of the elite 4.
  • Trainers have Pokemon not usually seen in Alola.
  • Movesets of weaker Pokemon is finished.
  • Youngster Joey has a top percent Rattata.
  • Wild encounters up until the post game are finished! Have fun everyone!
  • Custom music for post game returning trainers.
  • Almost every Pokemon has access to their hidden ability.

A NOTE ABOUT INSTRUCTIONS:
THE EASIEST METHOD IS GETTING A CFW, DO IT WHILE YOU CAN.
Instructions: (CFW Required for this method. See other method below if you don't have a CFW) I also still need to make the method easier for Pokemon Sun users, sorry!

THINGS YOU NEED:
- Latest nightly build of luma. (Get this through the .cia updater)
- The hack's GARC files (the stuff that actually overwrites the original assets) Get it from the Google Drive link

New and Updated Instructions! About time!

Luma Game Patcher Method:
    • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
    • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder titled romfs within luma/titles/(titleID)
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • Make sure "Enable Game Patcher" is checked in luma3ds setup.
  • Start Sun/Moon
Thats it! Easiest way to tell if its working is by starting a new game or checking your Trainer Passport.

FOR POKEMON SUN USERS: RENAME THE "3" FILE IN a\0\8\ TO "2"

Layeredfs: (These instructions only apply if you use the Layeredfs files)

The LayeredFS feature allows you to replace RomFS files with files on the SD card for most games. To use it:
  • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
  • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder called romfs in the game's folder.
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • For example, to use LayeredFS with Pokémon™ Sun, make a folder named romfs , put your replacement files in it, then put romfs in 0004000000164800.

Todo:
  • Re balance according to feedback.
  • Re balance Pokemon move sets and stats once tools are available.
  • Add in last few Pokemon. (Some starters, legendaries, etc.)
  • Finish documentation on the various changes.

Alright, I'm finally awake.

Moon, I walked in the tall grass for a while (a minute or more) and no Pokémon at all appeared, as if the encounters were disabled. I made sure I wasn't unlucky and tried several times.

@Kobazko Someone with CFW can easily make a banner for you http://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-custom-banner-video-tutorial.451861/
And for the custom title screen maybe ask someone who worked on a Gen 6 romhack

Huh. I'll go ahead and edit that table again and test it out my self soon thanks for the info. Also yeah, it would be cool is someone made a Custom Banner/Title.

Added an encounter table dumped from the GARC files. Its not too organized though but its better than nothing right?

Currently having issues with Wild Pokemon no longer even showing up on the routes... Will be quite some time until the next update and I can figure this out.

That's odd, considering I randomized all my wild encounters and even made my own python scripts to randomize starters and Totem Pokemon/SOS/Trial Encounters.

As of right now... No wild Pokemon are appearing through bushes what soever. Its really quite annoying. Here's Drayano's notes on the subject:

I did a little research into this to see if I could have any idea what's going on. I'm not entirely sure but...

  • I tried editing only the Trainer School grass (area id: 053) on a fresh set of files with the latest commit.
  • Encounters within that grass I edited worked perfectly fine, Honey or walking it was all good.
  • Encounters pretty much anywhere else just never happened. I tried a few random locations (Route 1, Hau'oli Outskirts, Route 3, Hau'oli City, Ula'ula Meadow, Tapu Village) and I wasn't able to get any wild Pokémon to appear. Honey also had no effect - the animation played but no encounter happened.
I noticed the a/0/8/3 file (on Moon, at least) seemed to gain a fair few bytes after saving - the initial file was 348,871,036 bytes but the file after saving was 348,997,994 bytes. The ends of the files look completely different in a hex editor too - the unedited one has large blocks of FF FF FF FF amongst some 11 00 00 00 which the edited file lacks.

The file size changing happens in Sun's a082 file as well.

No idea if any of that helps but that's pretty much everything I've observed

What question? I missed whatever it was... Even though you say forget I still want to know what the issue was. lol

Also I'm doing some testing regarding wild encounters right now. I might be able to get them working for everywhere but the Trainer's School for now? Also at the moment I'm leaving SOS encounters unedited because its insanely tedious and I had to start over on editing the wild Pokemon sadly. Right now I'm just going to try to get as much of the routes done as possible. Will try to upload a stable build tonight.

The question was that the Lana was using fire type Pokémon, but after I discovered that originally the trainer has to be Kiawe

oh, and are caught pokemon really not legit for online use?

No story changes, I personally didn't like Neo X and Y did that. Also Pokemon Sun and Moon's story is amazing without any changes! Also, you should assume Pokemon with base stat changes and move sets are not legal for online usage.
