Hi there, i have a big prob with freenet. Each time then I try do download for example an update for one of my games, freenet is crashing with en arm11 exception. Im using luma 11.5 emunand. Same thing in the old version 2.2.0. I guess before I switched from a9lh to boot9strap everything was fine. But could also be a lower CFW version.

It's freeSHOP, not freeNET. Have you tried Luma-Legacy? Also, why would you need an emunand?

For the last time, freeShop has no control over what games are added.

That isn't exactly true. For new games to show up in freeshop they not only need to have a title key from the title key site (or elsewhere) but they also have to be added to the cache. Though I don't know who is in charge of keeping the cache up to date for arc13's fork.

Same guy who ran the original.

But freeShop only reads the cache after it has been updated, so freeShop still has no control over what games are added. The cache is updated by an outside source. It's up to whoever uploads the title keys and whoever updates the cache to determine what freeShop has.

Same error with the 3dsx version of freeshop. Also tested with patched fs & sm, but same error. No one else has this problem?

So um... both as a formal suggestion and as a proof of concept, I'd like to introduce:

altCache

https://github.com/altCache/shop-cache/releases

My version of the freeshop cache. Currently not usable in any form, but if Paul (or even arc) adds custom cache urls, you can now use your own cache. Will write some docs about how to make one soon.

Can you tell me which one i should use?

Edit1: Now I tried out a lot of legancy versions but noone is working for me. With the legancy version I don't get an ARM11 exception screen, the app is just crashed and then the 3DS is restarting. But I guess this depends on Luma 8 isn't it. So how can I get this tool running?

ARM11 exceptions are usually caused by Rosalina which the legacy version removes. If you're still getting them I guess the app is the problem. Delete the freeShop folder from your SD card (3ds/data/freeShop) and let it make the files again.

Ok guys,
I guess I figured out what my problem was. I blocked some urls in my router and it seems that the app is crashing when the download can not be started. I think it should be much better if you will get an error message inside the app, that the download can not be started. So don't let the app crash and catch this exception. Currently I've tested with newest luma version (8.1)

FYI @arc13 and thx

Wew, so I don't know where to start, I'm not good with long speech, but I think it's the moment for me to stop the development of this fork of freeShop. (Please don't throw me rotten tomatoes)

So, I'm stopping here mainly because I will not have enough time to take care of freeShop, maybe some of you don't know that, but I'm effectively minor and I still have to go to school (yay!), the fact is that I have important exams this year, and the next year by extension, so I can't study correctly with a big community to manage (like the one freeShop have) and simply the app which is a real time-eater for me (I'm in holidays, and I was working on it entire days and nights, so I can't tell you how it will be when I will go back to school).

Another main reason is my motivation, I'm not really motivated anymore to maintain the app, because I think that I added a lot of features and I don't have the "inspiration" and the will to add some features. The first month, I was enjoying developing the app, and the community using it was awesome, if I can remember you something, it's that I just wanted to add a few things that community wanted to see in freeShop but unfortunately can't be in freeShop because of what happened to the original dev. As I already said, a lot of thing that community wanted was implemented, much more than I expected, and I reached the goal of this fork which was, I repeat it, just to implement a few things that community wanted (sleep mode downloads, storage informations, themes...)

Third thing, I don't want to say a lot of thing about this, but it's about UnbanMii, the app that caused a drama in the entire world, to be short, and maybe you don't know, but I worked a little bit on it, and, oh god, all the drama that caused this app because of an error, and some people are stubborn and don't want to hear the truth, this was a little bit the "decisive blow".

I take the opportunity of the 3.1.3 release to say that it will be my last update (maybe I will do some commits on my notabug, but nothing that will add amazing things). And if you're asking, yes, it's been a long time since I'm thinking about stop, during the dev of 3.1.2 in fact, so it's a Thoughtful decision™.
Oh, and yes, I would like to thank everybody that I encountered in this journey, a lot of really good people, and everybody in the freeShop discord, I really enjoyed being in their company.
So, I hope you understood why I'm not able to maintain this software anymore (pleeease, don't slap me), and, erm, goodbye! (I hope you understood my wall of text, I'm not really good with english, so imagine me writing all this stuff :P)

P.S. If someone want to pick up the project, then feel free to fork it!
Your contributions were really great, freeShop has improved so much since you forked it. Thank you :)

Why does freeshop never detect any updates out for games I have installed?

I had a handful amount of games due update, but freeshop doesn't notify it through the list of games I have.

Titlekeys need to be added manually, that includes updates titlekeys
Just update your games through eShop (unless they're from a different region, then you'll need to find a cia or wait for it to be added)

Automatically is the wrong word. The right word would be manually.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
