m4xw actually did a survey with his patrons asking what they wanted next... people mentioned reicast, and he did at some point that he should have included it to the poll, but it was too late. So maybe it’s his todo list but just not at the top.

I mean, either way, I think lakka, Android, and Ubuntu are still better options when you consider that yours truly's setup is kind of a rare case: two Switches, one clean, and one dirty to take the ban that my clean Switch would take. Yes, I know emuNAND is a thing now (I think?), but the fact is, I'm putting my accounts which have digital games purchased on the block for Nintendo to take its banaxe to if they smell something wrong. From what I remember, lakka doesn't leave a trace of any "unusual activity" that would be red flags for the Big Nintendo Brother Anti-Hacking System (B.N.B.A.H.S.) that is them watching over the filesystem and checking everything...whenever they check it. I know not everyone who hacked their Switch has been caught, but it's like, "what if it did happen?"

I don't know about Android (especially considering how early of a release it is), and I don't know if anything was said about Ubuntu leaving traces or not, but my point is that, while I would appreciate Horizon getting reicast/flycast via RA for convenience's sake, a part of me is also considering that, if that never happens (I don't see why it couldn't be attempted with some degree of success considering how well the damn thing works in lakka at PCSX-ReARMed's performance's expense), we should at least be willing to try some alternatives out. I can afford to do that personally with how my setup is. It might not be perfect for all of the homebrew solutions (i.e. I have no idea how well GZDoom controls in Ubuntu, let alone runs, as I never tried it out as I was getting tired after trying to configure everything emulation after overcoming various problems on one busy night after a long day at work with Ubuntu, and this was after quite a few days of running into problems with how Ubuntu works), but I at least have tried everything other than Android out to at least some extent.

I can understand m4xw (I made sure to spell your name correctly this time!) appreciating others stepping up. The man has mostly been getting everything up and going on Horizon, but for the most part, the most advanced console people cared about last year and going into this year was the N64, which is fine for those who have nostalgia for the system. It just isn't a system I really cared for growing up due to the lack of games for it and the very shoddy emulators at the time (read: anything 2D on Smash Bros. N64 not rendering like it should on Project64). I still think the Switch can achieve emulating DC games, if not NAOMI and Atomiswave games as a nice bonus!

Well, there's something to look forward to once Android is in a release more apt to be referred to as finished!

So not helpful to those who don't want, or even know about, dual-booting.

It's not as scary as you're making it out to be. If you have any experience doing any technical work on a PC, you shouldn't brick your Switch or any BS like that. Also, those who don't know about dual-booting probably aren't the kinds of people who are browsing these forums.

You have to take what you can get. At the end of the day, we aren't owed anything that we've been given. I'd love to see davidgf come back and at least polish up a lot of the bugs, but it's his choice as to whether he wants to contribute to code that he's left open and available to those who are better coders than yours truly to potentially give their own contributions to if they so choose to do so.

I, for one, am in favor of as many avenues to a hacked Switch that gives each and every users their hacked Switch needs as they so desire as possible.

so you dont like me. good job. feed into hate. for those that love dreamcast they know about an alternative, i don't dual boot? wha? all i did was format another 64gb card they are like 20 bucks. Since the two os don't interact no need to dual boot? I am not so lazy I can't switch a card? Your comment is not only negative it is miss-leading and ignorant. Bejeezus get over yourself.

I'd chuck £5 towards a bounty if it get this port to a more polished state :) If more people are serious about a bounty let's do this :D

If you feel so personally attacked from me simply pointing out that dual-booting isn't much of an adequate replacement for something running on the system's native software (especially if you don't want to bother with re-jigging, which dual-booting REQUIRES you to do at the moment), then I do hope you find the help that you need? I didn't even say anything about you as a person indirectly, let alone on purpose.

    And yes, it IS dual-booting.

Also, like I said, requires re-jigging and you aren't able to play any actual Switch games while using OtherOS (be it desktop Linux or Android). . . so, yeah.

All I'm saying is that Android isn't a friggin cure-all for any port or emulator not on Horizon, like people seem to be treating it as. It's merely an alternative if you just don't care enough about actual Switch games to begin with. It has nothing to do with anyone else, or even about being 'lazy' to format another card - I don't want to have to switch cards and re-jig my system and reboot into another system, and then reboot back to Horizon because OtherOS across the board has trash sleep functionality at the moment, or if I just want to be able to play my Switch games. And I don't intend to make my Switch an Android tablet - that's what my oversized phone and clamping controller is for, and at least that is officially supported by the system it's running and has working processor and graphics drivers out-of-the-box.

Not everyone, or even a lot of people, are willing to put forth such an arduous effort (side note: yes, it is a process - if you need an XDA tutorial and a separate SD card JUST for one OS, that is a process - and not one that should be taken lightly) and set aside another card exclusively for one emulated system and game collection. Treat it as an alternative, but it sure as hell isn't a replacement for the effort to have every emulator conveniently in one system.

I just have the patience to kindly wait for that effort to pull through at some point. Frick, this is a system I care enough for that I'd actually be willing to donate considerable money that I don't have yet just to make something tangible out of this entire mess. And I feel bad for the OP who put this effort in the first place, and will inevitably come back from his break (whenever that is, papa bless) to see people bitching and moaning over it.

Bro i wrote just a few words what is with this psycho wall. Take a look at it man its totally psycho.

I have to post because it is important. Other people read this stuff. Not so many are as knowledgeable as you (yes i actually think you are really smart! Fun fact i got my first retroarch installed thanks to you!) or i.

Ok first off. I am not dual booting android. This is important to explain. Some people will read your comment and think oh no! I have to learn how to dual boot to play cool dreamcast? Dual boot would be i have an atmosphere and nintendo partition and a separate android partition. That is NOT what i am doing at ALL.

My friend have you ever even used a droid on switch?

Which brings me to my next point. Android on switch well. It can have some interesting issues. So personally i do not think dual boot is a good idea. But a card dedicated to android is. Reason is i can see the android install getting corrupted from my observations. It is hard to explain. Also creating an android install is quite easy while i feel making a true dual boot would be a bit advanced for some. Simply switching sd card to boot to horizon is no big deal. Redream is truly that good. I suggest you check it out. Also man like lighten the negativity man. I dont care what we are talking about. My comments come from the love of gaming and dreamcast. It is obvious. Your comments well. They come from a very different place.

    *sigh*

There's too many user scenarios and specific configurations to really say anything about others' configurations, be it dual booting or the like. That being said, let's dissect this whole paragraph here, shall we, Mr. Arrogant Kung Fu Gino?

First of all, you assume that everyone "dual-boots." Dual booting is not me designating MicroSD Card 1 as the L4T-Ubuntu card, MicroSD Card 2 as the Horizon/Lakka hacks card, and MicroSD Card 3 as the Android hack card whenever it's more ready. It would be if I mixed any of the things that these two cards together as. MicroSD Card 2 is a dual-boot card. Seeing as how Lakka only works in handheld mode right now, I haven't used it too much, but it does look promising in terms of performance for this particular emulator, I'll say.

Also, OtherOS is a Sony PS3 feature only available to PS3's before the 3.55 update. Get your terms straight!

If you think that it's soooo much effort to install Android right now btw, I'd say it's pretty easy compared to having a real life job with responsibilities and having to put up with idiots all day, something that you don't seem to have considering the fact that you act like you have no money to spend on getting a bounty going for this emulator that you claim you want patiently enough, yet act like the dev will get pissed off if he comes back (keyword being if considering that, if he does get a job at Google, he probably ain't gonna be leaving anytime soon). You can do one of two things: try the other solutions out and see what results you get, and who knows, maybe you'll get that "convenient" ROM collection you want in one place? I know with my setup I don't mind having one Switch be a clean one and the other take the banhammer my clean one would get, but I do understand that two Switches would be expensive in your situation. But the fact is, you're on a forum full of people who want to tinker with the things they bought with their own hard-earned money, and yet here you are all like, "IT'S SO HARD TO SWITCH OUT MICROSD CARDS GUYS, I MEAN, PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING WARS ALL OVER THE WORLD TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOM AND WAY OF LIFE, BUT IT'S SUCH A PAIN TO SWITCH MICROSD CARDS OUT REEEEEEE!!!"

About the only thing I agree with in your post is that Android is an alternative. But for your complaining about the dev coming back and seeing all of the bitching, you sure seem to be a vampire because there's no reflection in that mirror! XD ;) Not to mention, if he does come back, be it an update about where he's at in life or a beta that's much more functional than what we already have, it will be appreciated either way by yours truly. If anything, he's given us a baseline to work with in terms of his open source code, so it's not like we're necessarily starting from scratch on a port to Horizon!

    Out of curiousity, is
redream>than reicast performance wise? It impressed me more on android than the dc counterpart alternatives, whereas i thought dolphin fell short of ubuntu and lakka in a few cases. Possibly it is just the case for android although am not sure .

Reicast on Switchroot seems to perform better in my experience. The Redream beta is playable but choppy, Reicast I can get running smooth.

Anyone know if this is still being worked on to possibly get a Stable Release?

Until we get an update, it's best to assume the worst, honestly. Even if this did get a stable release, in my experience with using standalone reicast on Ubuntu for the Switch via L4T, there's no way to play NAOMI/Atomiswave games as far as I could figure out. At least with the RA core, we'd be able to play those in addition to DC games!
