I wonder if they can track Usenet downloads, seeing as how you have to pay to use those servers, I doubt they would be bothered with it.
Don't scoff at this. This isn't silly. this is a REALLY big deal. You likely never be able to download any sort of copyrighted material, no matter what it is, again. This is going to hit us in ways quite apart from just downloading as well. This is one bill we DON'T want passed.DSGamer64 said:The whole debacle over copyright is a bit silly because there are plenty of ways to go about providing anything from movies to music and games in alternative methods that would be cheaper for some gamers. I have no issues with paying for good games, however the prices are becoming damn near extortion for console titles and companies can damn well blow me if they expect me to pay 70 dollars for a fricking 360 or PS3 game. One advantage the PC has is that games always remain around the same prices, rarely do you see games selling for over 50 bucks. DS games are generally pretty cheap but the downside is there are so many great games that it is hard to afford them all, plus carrying around a bundle of cartridges can be annoying. Digital content distribution would be successful on the DSi since games are not that big in size and you cut out the middle man called taxes and all the other extra costs that come with buying a game from a store so a 35 dollar game might only cost you 20 or whatever. Like with iTunes, CD's that I want are sometimes expensive, I wanted to get one yesterday but it was 33.99 plus tax, yet it's 9.99 on iTunes and I don't usually care about the cases anyway.
Just to add on to Ace's words, if all of you who post here actually do write a letter or anything else, we can make a difference. If you start complaining and you take no action, you might as well consider that bill passed. But if you go to the first post and follow some of the directions, like Ace said, we can make a difference. There's strength in numbers, and together we can shoot this bill down! I've already done my part by writing a letter to the Prime Minister, what have you done?Ace Gunman said:Folks, this isn't an inevitability. I've brought this to your attention so that you can help stop this legislation in its tracks. It hasn't happened yet, and it doesn't need to. All you need to do is make your voices as Canadians heard by following some or all of the instructions in the first post of this very topic. It's not difficult, and it will make a difference. We've already made a huge difference by getting them to open this up to the public in the first place. We can do it again!
There are far more reasons than "the love of stealing stuff". I'm sure that's true for some, but not all. Perfectly legitimate business would be crippled or ended, various products that permeate the market place would be made illegal, want to back up a song from your mp3 player? That'd be a crime. The list goes on and on.mastertop101 said:this stuff is absurd... im canadian and i believe there's no legit or ethical excuse to pirate (STEAL) stuff
people just want to steal media thats the only reason they are afraid of copyright laws... they try to convince themselves and others that they do this for freedom and other bullshit but deeply inside they know the true reason
Don't quite know what's the point of this public speakout... it should be expected that canadians want to steal media stuff, anyhow they say it...
it's like going at the grocery store and steal 25% of what you buy there, just so that the grocery store makes 0$ in profit... would that be okay?
the good thing that shall be done is enforcing those laws... but obviously what we want is the opposite
