Kinda crappy they have no documentation on the "new" firmware. And also, their mirror location is already down. Lol

What you mean by updateable like gateway? R4i have newer ASIC chip (which sorta doesn't do anything good now) than gateway. Updating ASIC chip means you need buy new flashcart (80$ for GW?).
The gateway team said that their code running on the FPGA is updateable for future features like multirom.
Until now, they only updated the launcher.dat.
But this also meant for Emunand feature. This just means that new stuff like multirom can be copied too. They just updating software, and since hw is almost (99% same), r4i can use it too. After week of reverse coding I guess.
