how is Cyclo's compatibility with games compared to the R4? (so far in my experience the R4 has hardly any game compatibility problems - i have been able to play 100% of all my games on it with no issues - the only game that i can't play is Nanashi no Game, and that problem has been fixed with AR codes already)

Have you guys/gals seen this? No more excuses what-so-ever to buy an R4 now, as far as I'm concerned. If I didn't already have half a dozen flashcards, I'd definitely buy a CycloDS now.

I upgraded from R4 to Cyclo and there is no contest. Cyclo is clearly better.

I did the same

the only real difference is SDHC support

R4 loads faster, and for the ADD kiddies out there that can't handle that 0.5 seconds that the warning screen hits before you hit a button, the R4 goes past it right into it's own menu
(unlike the cyclo where you have to *gasp* hit a button, then launch the Cyclo menu from the default DS menu)

I've had both for a while now, and the only reason I bought a cyclo was I got a 2nd DS and decided that I wanted SDHC support (my 8gb card has 5.5 gb free, jeje)

Bought an R4DS because at the time it ruled.

It's still a good card, just not possessing all the new fangled options perhaps.

But considering I only want it to play DS roms who cares.

And regarding the 2 gig limitation, dang, but you DO know how many games that is correct?

Yesterday I was scoping out iPods saw a classic that has a 160 gig drive allowing for 40 thousand songs

Funny that, considering at 46 I have never even encountered 10 thousand songs, no not even 5 thousand songs, so where I would find 40 thousand songs escapes me. Yes I know, they are just quantifying storage capacity. I think I was more interested in calling it hundreds of anime music videos or scores of dvd movies.

Point to the above, if you need more than 2 gigs, you need your head checked

And as 8 gigs is way too much for games, and won't really be enough for many movies, you likely have the wrong device if you are doing something other than playing games, and you don't need 8 gigs for games.

So while the other non R4DS cards have nifty add ons, I think an R4DS and maybe a couple of extra 2 gig micro sd cards (if you are desperate) is just as doable.
In the end, the only good choice is buy the item that is the cheapest where you found them.
They're all good cards, but the price is what counts.
I'd never base it on pointless added capacities.

My fiance use R4 and I use CycloDS.

I'd pick CycloDS every time.

R4 only use cards that are up to 2GB. He wanted to buy a 8GB but couldn't use it on R4, R4 have no SDHC support. I use 8GB on CycloDS and it's perfect. No slow downs or freezing. Even with problematic games such as Castlevania series.

CycloDS latest firmware have made Cyclo Menu to load much faster. CycloDS does goes into its own menu straightaway.

One thing I really hate about R4 is its themes. It's so hard to set up and there are only a limit of 12. Where with CycloDS, you can have unlimited themes. R4 doesn't have flash-like themes where the menu on bottom screen changes when you touch them where R4 doesn't.

CycloDS now have GBA support. Although still in its BETA stage but it's a start.

From what I heard, the real competition with CycloDS is Supercard DSOne. I haven't tried that card yet. I've tested FireCard (the worst card out there), R4 and CycloDS, and I'd pick CycloDS every time. I might change my mind if I've tested Supercard, who know?

Lastly, have you seen DealExtreme? They are selling CycloDS at a very cheap price with free (but very slow) shipping.

I've had my DS for 1 day and already have 6 gigs full of my 8. It's only 170 games or so games. I haven't even touched emulators or homebrew yet. I guess I should get that head checked because I have a 5.4 gig neogeo set alone on my xbox I would have liked to convert over. Forget everything else. CycloDS is clearly a better cart then the soon to be phased out R4. Why not spend a few extra bucks?

- o wow great price from dealxtreme, just payed 50 elsewhere. got my ezflash 3-1 from them though.

My 8GB is already full. Guess I need my head checked too.

No emulators or only one or two homebrew. Over 150 games.

CycloDS is only £30 ($60) and you'll save how many $$$ on games if you bought a flashcart that would let you play hundreds of games.

CycloDS Pluses:
- SDHC support - even 4gb is not enough for me now!
ohmy.gif
(I've got like 1.5gb of media)
- Unlimited skins - I only have 6 though
- Press L+R when starting - instantly load last game/homebrew
- Great support - TC post in their forums, R4 don't (do they have an official forum yet?)
- Touch Screen support - use the stylus to select games (R4 has to use D-pad which sucked)
- Enhanced Menu - Press L,R,A,B,X,Y to open the EM where you can change brightness, Real Time Save/Load (comes in very handy sometimes - like in Worms, if you fail you don't have to wait for the loading screen each time, just open the EM and Real Time Load), Slow-mo (pretty useless IMO), toggle cheats on/off, and of course soft-reset.
- Homebrew soft-reset - much better than powering off, then on (another feature R4 doesn't have).

I used to own an R4 and while they were excellent at the time, it is pretty outdated now. Get a CycloDS - worth the extra £££.

cyclo, its got top features which are amazing and if you find it falling behind or having problems then the team will be there straight away with an update to make it go straight back to number 1. Sure its $35, which some people say is expensive but i find that cheap.

its 35?? i thought it was like 120 rofl. how is 35 expensive??
it was 50-60 but its just appeared on dx today at 35.90 so now its almost comparable in terms of price

i used the same sign as you did - none.
sorry if my post required common sense - it showed the price dropped almost in half which was a big clue to it now being cheaper but yeah
