Even in this state (where R4 is diving in popularity in this forum) R4 is still a cart you know, there are many things provided to support this cart.

So, I'm trying to compile files that you might need for your R4 here, so you guys don't have to look or search for it again

    Table of Contents....
    1. <b>FIRMWARES</b>

    --<u><b>A. Latest firmware</b></u>

    v 1.18
    changelog :
    Solved 2203, 2219, 2240, 2250 problem

Download links (taken directly from R4DS official website)
    <a href="http://www.r4ds.com/soft/english2/English-1.18.rar" target="_blank">v1.18 english</a>
<a href="http://download.r4ds.com/soft/english2/English-1.18.rar" target="_blank">v1.18 english </a>(mirror) (Thanks to Narin for the link)
    credit goes to <b>R4DS team</b>

    --<u><b>B. Recommended firmware</b></u>

    v 1.18 bugfixed
kernel v1.18 bugfixed with YASU's r4bugfix2, absolutely better don't you think?

Provided by Rayder, bugfix by YASU

    Download link :
    <a href="http://users.ameritech.net/rayder/_DS_MENU.zip" target="_blank">v1.18 bugfixed</a> (taken directly from Rayder's signature)
<a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=2384" target="_blank">v1.18 bugfixed</a> (mirror) (provided by Narin, hosted by GBAtemp)

credit goes to: <b>Rayder</b> and I'd say <b>YASU</b> for the bugfix

    2. <b>CHEAT DATABASES</b>

--<u><b>A. Latest Cheat Database</b></u> (started by Rayder, now running under Narin maintenance)
    <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=84991&hl=R4DS++download" target="_blank">Narin's NEW cheat compilation thread</a>
    <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=77646" target="_blank">Rayder's cheat compilation thread</a>

    Download link:
<a href="http://cheats.gbatemp.net/" target="_blank">Cheat database</a> (in ZIP) This link takes you to the download menu, choose whatever you like and download what is necessary. Narin updates it frequently, so tracking it down is pretty hard <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

    Note:
To R4 users and its clones, use either CHEAT.dat or USRCHEAT.dat and not both, using both will cause some codes and games not to show up.

credit goes to: <b>Narin</b> and <b>Rayder</b>

    3. <b>ROM TRIMMERS</b>

    --<b><u>A. Latest ROM Trimmer</u></b>

    R4DS Official ROM trimmer v2.0
    <a href="http://www.r4ds.com/soft/1-other-en.htm" target="_blank">official website</a> for guide purpose

However, R4DS ROMtrimmer seems to use a pretty dangerous trimming mode, people prefer use tokyotrim for this purpose, but officials should be mentioned, no?

Download link (taken directly from R4DS official website)
    <a href="http://www.r4ds.com/soft/other/R4DS-ROM-Trimmer-2.0.rar" target="_blank">R4DS ROmtrimmer 2.0</a>

    credit goes to: <b>R4DS team</b>

    --<b><u>B. Recommended ROM trimmer</u></b>

    tokyotrim

Many people praise tokyotrim due to its work, it does a great job in trimming and suffers less (or even no) complaint compared to R4DS ROMtrimmer

I can't find tokyotrim's official website, so I'll provide <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=55162" target="_blank">this thread</a> instead, it hosts the download link and discusses it.

Download link: (taken directly from above thread)

--<b><u>B. DLDI Patcher</u></b> (Thanks to Another World for the suggestion)
While R4DS has auto-DLDI-patch feature built-in, sometimes manual pacthing would be the best, thus this section, <b>DLDI Patcher</b>

check out this <a href="http://dldi.drunkencoders.com/index.php?title=DLDI_Right_Click#v0.9)" target="_blank">page</a> for more info

--<b><u>C. Moonshell</u></b> (Thanks to Another World for the suggestion)

Everybody knows Moonshell, everybody loves Moonshell, yep. Moonshell is a famous Media Player exclusive for NDS . R4DS features Moonshell v1.71(the latest) by default. Still, not everybody knows how to use Moonshell e.g.: What video format can Moonshell play? How do I convert to that format?

I found a useful guide about Moonshell <a href="http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=18663" target="_blank">here</a>, but it uses Supercard SD and Flashme v5 for the guide, so maybe it won't help alot, but at least you know the basics

Moonshell can play video, but limited only to .dpg format, none other would work, so <a href="http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=gotodownload&downloadid=1518" target="_blank">here</a> is Moonshell DPGTool, a handy tool to convert your video to .dpg format. File size is 5.1 MB and is in .7ZIP format. Works only with 3 video format, I remember .wmv, .avi and 1 other format.

If you <b>need</b> something more powerful, check this software out.
SUPER Converter, which claims it can convert almost ANY format and convert it straight to .dpg, and other formats too.

    check <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUPER_(software)" target="_blank">this</a> page for info
    or
    check the <a href="http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html" target="_blank">official website</a>

if you want a straight download with no hassles (trust me, the official website has LOTS of hassles) click <a href="http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html" target="_blank">this</a> link. The download link is at the botom of the page, I tried to direct link it, but the link broke. File size is 25.6MB in .exe

credit goes to: <b>Moonlight</b> (the creator of Moonshell), <b>author of DPGTool</b>, <b>Zeus</b> and <b>DeVS</b>(for the guide), <b>erightsoft</b> for SUPERConverter

DSOrganize is a pretty popular homebrew for NDS, yep. The name explains itself. DSOrganize can organize your NDS files. It can do alot of things. It is an Organizer, music player, image viewer, wav recorder, IRC client... all in one.

    <b>Fixes found in 3.2</b>

    Added basic cookie support.
Tied Y to the stop function on the web browser.
Changed IRC receive mode to hopefully squash memory error.
Changed internet enabled applications to allow downloading/processing while the lid is closed.
Decreased memory footprint to allow larger images to load again.
Fixed annual dates causing every day to underline in some cases.
Fixed e^x freezing in some instances.
Fixed inconsistent save message on scribble screen.

    Fixed aac/mp3 streams skipping sometimes.
Fixed bad font characters in the smallest font.

Fixed garbage display in hbdb if you cancelled the list then pressed left or right.
Fixed graphical issues with themes loaded.

    5. <b>CUSTOMIZATION TOOLS</b>

Injektor2 is a small software made by zorgrage to edit your DS_MENU.DAT, literally edits strings and other few things. So you can delete that R4DS English Version text that meddles with your awesome theme <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

For the true fan of R4 (or just own an R4), having a custom theme is a must (that is, unless you're OK with the basic theme provided)

That said, making a custom theme is not hard, but takes a lot of time. Thankfully, a program called R4 Theme Creator Alice
    is here to help us.

This program is easy to use, has lots of good features, supports drag-and-drop system.

    Yasu said:
GUI patcher with r4bugfix2 and r4trans. For those who don't know, the more casual term is, you can fix a bug in R4, causing some cheats to work, and you can translate R4 loaders from chinese version to English version

    <a href="http://yasu.rank.nu/yasu/count.cgi?n=r4custom&l=http://home.usay.jp/pc/etc/nds/r4custom.zip" target="_blank">R4 Kernel Customizer</a>
    credit goes to: <b>YASU</b>

This is a small software made by YASU to decrypt and encrypt your DS_MENU.DAT, it can encrypt any .nds file to .dat file, and extract files from .DATs

    Download link:
    <a href="http://yasu.rank.nu/yasu/count.cgi?n=r4denc&l=http://home.usay.jp/pc/etc/nds/r4denc.zip" target="_blank">R4denc</a>
    credit goes to: <b>YASU</b>

For some people, it's pretty annoying to actually turn off their NDS, remove R4, then boot NDS again to enjoy Download Play feature. So, YASU did a few things here and there and here's <b>back2fw</b>, it boots NDS firmware when you run it. Beware though: you can't get back to R4again once you run it. You have to turn off your NDS and turn it on again to access R4

    Download link:
    <a href="http://yasu.rank.nu/yasu/count.cgi?n=back2fw&l=http://home.usay.jp/pc/etc/nds/back2fw.zip" target="_blank">back2fw</a>

    credit goes to:<b>YASU</b>

With R4Team's controversial announcement (well, it's ahtin who found it, and many still argue about whether it's official or not), which claims the next update will destroy fake R4s, along with the fact that R4 has no update for months, YASU's so kind to make a custom loader for R4, it's called YSMENU.

For further information, I suggest you to go <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=97615" target="_blank">here</a>. This topic tells you almost anything about YSMENU, along with a few download links

    Download link:
    <a href="http://yasu.rank.nu/yasu/count.cgi?n=YSMENU&l=http://home.usay.jp/pc/etc/nds/YSMenu0804200115.zip" target="_blank">YSMenu</a>

    credit goes to:<b>YASU</b>

That's all the things I feel necessary, anyone who knows other files important for R4 may tell me and post it, I'll update the post

P.S: can the moderator stick this thread? I think this one is useful for R4 users out there

Formatting is key, as its hard to find what you're looking for in 200 lines of identical text.

good topic, but a bit confusing at first. subsections under firmware for example (1.1) make it first read like your saying the latest firmware is v 1.1. color headings and bold text make for better subtopic sections than numbering.

i really think you should include something on a dldi no-patch app (http://dldi.drunkencoders.com/index.php?title=DLDI_No-AutoPatch, http://dldi.drunkencoders.com/index.php?ti...ght_Click#v0.9) as dsorganize sometimes requires it for booting of homebrew with the r4.

also where is the section on moonshell, how to use moonshell, and how to update moonshell? granted the r4 firmware comes with the latest version (1.71) but that won't always be the case. also dpg encoding for moonshell would be a welcome addition, even if only a few links to help others find their way.

    cheers,

    Needs a table of contents.

Spoiler tags would be optimal as well (to save on scrolling time).

Umm....... sorry, but what's the point of making a spoiler tag? Since items here are meant to be known, arent' they?I thought spoiler tags was links that links you to a part of the post.... seems I'm wrong

Spoiler tags are also great for saving space in long guides like this.

So if someone is looking for something, they don't have to scroll past the entire text of every item. Once they find what they're looking for (which should be simple due to the table of contents), they just click the spoiler button and have what they want.

the guide is looking good, nice job.

is there any way to add anchor tags in bbcode? it would be nice if the TOC was clickable to something further down in the post.

As far as I know the only way to do that would be with HTML, which is only available to staff members.

Can this topic include things ON the R4, i.e. homebrews? if so you must add dsorganiser
if not you need R4 theme creator alice. very useful for creating themes. (obviously).
another useful program is yasu's R4 bugfix2 (although you already have links to the patchd firmware)

Heh, never thought someone will actually post something on this thread

Sorry, I DID thought about adding homebrews, R4 Alice, and others, but seeing it ignored makes me too lazy.

I'll find their links and add them soon just you wait [IMG]

Yes, HTML can do wonders, I am pretty good when it comes down to HTML, however in most forums only admins can use it!
