Hacking Quick questions - got a 5.4 wii u but want a nnid

So I just got a Wii U on 5.4.0U. I see there is exploits being worked on for this version and a private one for 5.5.0. I want to setup a Nintendo network ID but I have to update my console to this. Should I just update? Is there any way around it? I'd like to still have a hackable wii u but I don't know if its worth it now since its still a long way off. Any help would be appreciated

Edit: Ended buying another Wii U on ebay (console only) on firmware 4.0.0. Mwuahahaha
