What is the best anti-brick tool I should install for the vWii?
I was wondering this as well.
None, because they don't exist;
The best strategy is to start ftpiiu-everywhere in WiiU mode and make a file-level backup of the slccmpt01 (Vwii) partition (or make a block-level backup - nand.bin + keys.bin): from there you can always copy back system files if you uninstall/overwrite a critical title, or manually remove a title's folder if you bannerbrick

Wiiflow,
What kind of hard drive format, Fat32? NTFS? still WFBS? I know alothas changed since USBloader.

All 3 should work on all 3 major usb loaders (and then some more), however:
-The WBFS file system (not to be confused with the .wbfs trimmed ISO format) should be avoided, it's (nowadays) nonstandard for the sake of being nonstandard, can't hold other files than Wii games, is prone to corruption, and can't be accessed with standard PC software
-Most Wii homebrews that otherwise support USB drives (Nintendont, the HBC, Savegame Manager GX, ...) can't write or even read from NTFS partitions

To add to the above, I followed this guide:

And got the required files to install. However, USB Loader GX can no longer see my USB HDD. Note that USB Loader GX was able to detect the HDD before I ran 'd2x cios installer' and 'ios236 installer v8 MOD Special vWii Edition'. My USB HDD is plugged into the front of the console using a Y-cable.

*edit* seems to work OK on the rear ports, but not the front, regardless of how I set USB Loader GX USB Port to '0', '1', or 'Both Ports'.

Also, is there an alternative to SaveGame Manager GX for transferring saves/miis? It locks-up my Wii and Wii-U after about every 5 save transfers.

Use d2x-v10-beta52 ONLY. Don't use beta53, and I believe port 0 on the Wii U is the top-left one in the rear. You cannot use any other one.

I'm getting the black screen -> return to HBC error when using USB Loader GX. Ultimate goal is to get Brawl set up with PM and Brawl Minus, but I can't even get vanilla brawl running.
  • System menu 4.2, Bannerbomb -> HBC 1.2
  • cIOS: v10 rev53, slot 249, base 56
  • USB Loader GX: 12.68
I've also used USB Loader GX 12.6 and cIOS v8 final, though maybe not together at the same time.
Sometimes I get the black screen freeze, sometimes I return to HBC. I haven't succeeded at loading vanilla brawl yet.
I've tried using both USB ports for the hard drive, and forcing the visual display to different settings.
USB Loader GX appears to recognize my .iso, but can't play it. I've tested the .iso in Dolphin and it works.

Thanks for any help.

*sigh* Please read my post right above yours.

Thanks for the tip, and for replying so fast. I just tried that again, but at this point I've used v8, v10 beta 52 and v10 beta53 with the same result (black screen -> return to HBC).

I'm going to try a clean wipe and reinstall from scratch, then check back with new info if it fails in a new and interesting way.

EDIT: I did a clean reinstall with Bannerbomb, same issue when loading up Brawl. Black screen -> return to HBC.
  • HBC 1.2
  • cIOS v10 beta 52, base 56 slot 249 and base 57 slot 250
  • USB Loader GX 1268
I've tried changing the Hooktype as well based on the PM installation tutorial I was looking at, for whatever that's worth.

Are you using an actual HDD or a flash drive? Flash drives are notorious for not working on Wiis.

500GB Buffalo HDD. The entire setup worked in a previous configuration I did a couple years back. I'm going to try a different game and see if that changes anything. I'll also edit this post with a sysCheck in case that adds any useful information, and some screenshots of my file structure.

EDIT: Got a different game working--it shows the region, box art and splash screen with sound when selected. Brawl can't download cover art, shows no splash screen or sound when selected. My file path is wbfs/Super Smash Bros. Brawl [RSBE01]/RSBE01.wbf1, RSBE01.wbfs

EDIT 2: I tried deleting and then re-transferring brawl to my HDD, and it worked! Next is to test with PM and minus.

Hello, I have been using USB Loader GX for a few months, still pretty new at it. Today I turned on the parental controls just trying things out, got the settings how I wanted them, and then turned off the parental controls with the correct code. But now, none of my games above the 0-Everyone level will show up. The parental controls are off, but my games aren't showing up. I only have 23 of my 40 games now. What did I do wrong?

Hi, my name is Pablo, I've 3 sons, 2 of them are underage.
We just got them a used Nintendo Wii, black flashed and retrocompatible.
It came with an external hardrive, with 40-some games, and what appears to be something called CFG USB Loader.
I want to add more games to the list, but can't find instructions on how to do that online.
All I find is instructions on how to "get a USB drive ready to work with the Wii (from scratch)".
That's not what I want. The console is already all tweaked and configured, the USB drive already has a few games, and everything is working fine. What I need to know is how to add more games.
Let's say I made a .iso file for a Wii game I want to add to the list, and have that .iso file in my computer. What do I do with it to add it to the USB drive?
Thanks for the help!!

Wii Backup Manager

So, I need some help. I’ve followed every thread, video, blog post, etc. I could find on USB loader GX, and have never been able to successfully load up Wii games. I can get GC games perfectly fine, Wii on the other hand remains nearly impossible to work.

I’ve tried every combo of D2X that’s been mentioned to me, I’ve tried having it force NTSC on video, tried Wiiflow, and tried WAD files from a few videos that didn’t help at all. If anyone could try and help me I’d be most grateful!

I’ve had my USB reverted to RAW twice now because of loaders crashing, and it’s very frustrating when I’ve done everything I think I could have.

I configured my USB Loader GX this week to be able to recognize Gamecube iso's through Nintendont from a USB drive. However, when I go to start the game I am getting a pop up the says "Game is on USB"
"Do you want to copy the game to SD or Delete a game on SD" The only options are Copy, Show SD, or Cancel. Do I have a setting wrong somewhere?
