Quick Question to all here.

I am quite good in soldering modchips and modding controllers and consoles in general (if it's only relative minor stuff like that, not talking about mods that are like a whole
reconstruction of a console.
My question is:
Do you think it is still profitable/ worthwile modding consoles and selling them? I am thinking mainly about Switches (Lites, Normals and occasionaly OLED's if I can afford a
New one in the case I make a mistake and the Switch OLED would be bricked/ not working for whatever reason).

Pondering this because I saw a Ebay listing just a couple days ago which offered a Wii U Modding Service for 180€ and it had already had 5 Buyers with good Feedback (like WTF
180€ for that is just soo wrong in my opinion, but people seem to still buy it smh).

If anyone could offer an opinion I would be grateful!

As for the price normal Switches go for about 150€ where I live (condition = used ofc). I wanted to sell them for about 180€ (modded with a Picofly 2040 chip and ofc without any
illegal Backups etc., just CFW and nothing else). I have a good source for used Switches so I would make about 60€ profit, +also have a good source for Picofly chips.
The Switch Lites I wanted to sell for about 130€ (also Picofly, they go for about 80-120€ where I live used)
Do y'all think this would be okay/ at least a bit profitable for me? (Also just saw the other day a Lite with a Picofly sold for 270€)

EDIT: I DO NOT WANT TO SELL ON THIS FORUM! I only want a opinion about my plans/ prices. I say this bc of if any Mod thinks I wanted to sell on this forum without being allowed/ without paying vendor fees/ circumventing rules about selling on this forum etc.

Your plan is worthwhile and profitable given your skill level and good sourcing.

Increase your prices for the modded Switches and Lites to better reflect the difficulty of the Picofly install and the current market value of a hard-modded console.

Start with a small batch (2-3 Lites/V2s) at a higher price (e.g., 220€ for a V2) to test the market, and then adjust based on how quickly they sell.

I don't recommend selling modded consoles. Not because it takes more of your time to prepare, sell, and ship all of your orders, it's still illegal with however you would define that (especially with your country's laws). In the case that a console is modded, and that it comes pre-loaded with legal homebrew titles, that is fine. But consoles that come with ROMs obtained from dubious sources on the other hand is.

The best advice I can give to you, is to do write ups on researching console modding; whether that'd be flashcarts, custom firmware, technical aspects of the console itself, anything that's on your mind that no-one has discussed--that's how I got back into this hobby. Your humble wisdom will teach the future generation to continue maintaining these systems for the near future.

Ooorrrrr hear me out, don’t profit on something that’s illegal and just give out free tutorials

Teach the future generation
I don’t believe it’s actually illegal to sell modded consoles. Selling them with ROMs installed is illegal, that’s copyright infringement

  • our plan and prices are reasonable
  • Switch modding still sells well
  • Profit is there if failure rate stays low
  • Wii U prices look stupid, but clearly people still pay for convenience

You’re thinking about this the right way — just start small, track real profit, and adjust.

This is a really insightful question, 404aCe-AL58! Your detailed breakdown of potential profits and the comparison to Wii U modding services is very helpful.
