If the wii was originally Korean and poorly region changed, then an official update will brick it. This probably doesn't apply in you're case if the console has truly never been modded.
That being said, the modmii wizard process will help you simultaneously softmod and update the console, so no need to do an update beforehand. And this method is safe to do even in the rare cases where a console was previously poorly region changed.
Thank you for the quick and comprehensive response.
My relative handed me the Wii in order to go ahead with the modding. I probably won't have time this weekend, but I hope to have time for it next.
Anyway, the device label says "RVL-001 (EUR)" so I assume, as you wrote, that it's not a concern that it's a Korean device that has had a region change.
From your answer, I learned that there's no need to even connect the device to the internet. Just follow the ModMii instructions and the procedure will update the device to the latest version and install the HomeBrew Channel. Did I understand correctly?
From the information I read, in order to do the modding procedure, one needs to have an SD card.
I should have an old MicroSD card with a capacity of 4 or 8 GB and also an adapter from microSD to full size SD. So I assume there shouldn't be a problem using the card.
I also read that this capacity should be sufficient, I hope there shouldn't be any concerns.
In addition, in order to convert the CDs that are currently used so that one can play games without them, it is possible to use an external hard drive, I have one laying around unused with a capacity of 1 or 2 TB.
One point that is not clear to me, after performing the modding procedure, does the SD card have to remain in the device permanently or once the modding is performed, there is no longer any need for the memory card to be inside the device.
That is, is the installation performed directly "on the device" or does the card have to remain in the device in order to enjoy the modding products.
If it has to remain in the device, is it worth purchasing a new card? Is there a preference for a certain type? A certain capacity?
Thank you
