Modded my wii. loaded wii games onto the hdd in a folder titled wbfs. loaded gamecube games in the same hdd under file games. Both wii and gamecube games are visible in USBloaderGX. Wii games play but a lot of them black screen and say disk read error even though there is no disk. And gamecube games show up but when i click on them they say basically that the file path is wrong.

Can anyone help me with this

for Wii games, the folder structure should be like this :
"Hdd:/wbfs/Game Name [GameID]/GameID.wbfs"
The game id is unique for each game, and
mind you you need to do that for every game, if you don't know the game ids of your games, look them up online, or use WiiBackupManager to restransfer your games as it does the file/folder naming automatically for you.

For GC: "Hdd:/games/Game Name [GameID]/game.iso"
Note that GC games are literally named "game.iso"
And for 2 disc games you name the 2nd disc "disc2.iso" along with disc 1 as "game.iso".

Yes all the Wii games are like that. I used wii backup manager to load them and gamecube one to load those

Used the latest Modmii 8.0.1 to update a really old outdated Wii (still using Hermes and d2xv8!), anyway all went well however the HBC I had on there was 1.1.0 and now with the latest version installed I have 2 HBC channels, is it safe to remove the old one in the Wii system menu or do it through YAWMME?

Okay I did it through system menu, I accidentally deleted the wrong one but it was easy enough to just reinstall 1.1.5 and uninstall the old one (1.1.0 was 13 blocks and 1.1.5 is 14 blocks).

Last edited by AaronZ,
No it was actually launching two different versions (checking in the HBC Menu to confirm, also 1.1.0 had the "classic theme"), all good now though.

Actually another question half related to the above, what is actually stored in the savedata for HBC? Because I now have two of those as well.

UPDATE: Deleting both is safe, it just recreates the one save file when launched again.

I'm new to modding my Wii.
I just used ModMii and have all this installed.

Now I'm curious about d2x cIOS,

Ok awesome thanks. Yeah i installed all the wads ModMii gave me.

I think i am going to factory reset the unit though because it's absolutely loaded with the previous owners stuff, game save blocks all used, & no tool i could find can delete them all so i wanted to factory reset it...

If u factory reset you'll need to reinstall the hbc and any forwarder channels u have installed, but generally this is fine to do

I've installed homebrew, but I can't install games from the usb drive, it's been formatted to Fat32, I've also downloaded the 'apps' folder to the drive. It can find the drive, I don't seem to be able to install games. I have been able to install VC games through the front memory.

Also, how are you suppose to know how to properly name Wii games for installation? Like this example:

wbfs/Game Name [GAME ID]/GAMEID.wbfs/Game

wbfs/Super Smash Bros Brawl [RSBE01]/RSBE01.wbfs

Yes the second way is correct. You can have the folder name be anything you want (not sure if there's a limit, probably), I use wit and then just make the folder myself, but Wii Backup Manager will do the whole naming thing for you.

Last question here, but just want to be sure, if I already installed all the cIOS WADs and other WADs that ModMii gave me, then i don't need to reinstall those WADs after doing a factory reset?

Thanks!

I don't really get why, but my wii is a LOT faster after formatting it. All 2184 blocks of save memory available (it had literally 12 blocks free when I got it). I reinstalled HBC thru Priiloader and all my stuff was there. I double checked that there was no wiiware or other stuff i could download from the store before formatting it. It was totally empty in that regard except for having netflix and youtube downloaded.

The only thing that went wrong is that Savegame Manager GX wouldn't copy my saves back. Idk why, it just said they weren't installable. Not a huge loss but mildly annoying. I knew it was a risk they wouldn't copy back though.

Iirc you can copy the savedata back only AFTER first creating a new save file
