Yeah...

Just start whatever semi-CFW you're loading up from the XMB and you're ready to go.

EDIT: THAT WAS SO CLOSE.
Once I posted, xist post showed under mine. We must of been like, a second apart.

Once you have everything set up on your PSP once then you'll no longer need a PSP to initialise that temporary custom firmware.

Few more questions,
this doesn't affect game data in any way, does it?
Repeatedly uninstalling and installing won't damage the system in any way, right?

No, because it isn't stored permanently. It uses the RAM. Also, if you want a permanent CFW, try 6.20 GEN-D Perma patch.

Kind of confused, so basically, whenever i save my game data and turn my PSP of, neither the save nor the game iso will get affected due to CFW uninstalling right? @_@
Also, permanent CFW? I don't see anything like that in the softmod topic, or maybe i am just blind @_@

OP's PSP is 3k. Gen-Ds would brick it.

Gundam Eclipse: I would recommend 5.03 Gen C + Signed kxploit. Most games would work on it.

Just DL these if you're on 5.03 or below: (all can be found at pspslimhacks, also DL the 5.03 OFW if you're not on 5.03 yet)

  • ChickHEN r2
  • 5.03 GenC
  • Signed kxploit

[*]Boot your psp 3k to ChickHEN r2 (may take a while if you're unlucky)[*]Run GenC installer[*]Done

The signed kxploit is for when you loose your cfw (crash, battery, etc). Just run the kxploit everytime your cfw gets erased from RAM.
You can delete both chickHEN and GenC after first install, then just use the signed kxploit from then on.

TN-D != Gen-D

Although Total_Noob worked with the Gen team AFAIK.

The thing is, it works with 3000.
@OP, you'll come to a CFW guide for 5.03 and downgrade guide for 6.20 if you click on the PSP in my sig. If you don't want to downgrade, install 6.20 TN-D and then install the perma patch. To run isos use prometheus iso loader.

Yeah, TN-D is a permanent CFW for any PSP but not Gen-D.

I just noticed that I had told him to run GEN-D. I'm extremely sorry OP. Just follow the instructions in my previous post and you should be just fine.

Actually, i have yet to buy a PSP, therefore the question, because i was wavering between buying a PSP 2000 online or a 3000 from a nearby mall.
As long as i don't need access to a PC for reinstalling CFW, i have no problem.
Thanks for the guides though, i will make sure to refer to this topic once i get my PSP.
Just to confirm, i can install CFW as long as the OFW is 6.35 or less, right?

If you can't buy yourself a fully hackable psp 2k, then I would go for a 3k. Better screen and better buttons. 2k buttons feel wierd.

I had the 2000 and now I'm playing a 3000 and it's really not a big deal going from permanent CFW to the temporary one. I just keep a memory card handy with the hack in case my PSP crashes during a game or homebrew. It used to happen even on my 2000, the only difference is now it takes about twenty seconds to reboot and reinstall (every subsequent installation is actually completed in no time, I suppose it's cached somehow)

Just accept that all these concerns are baseless. Everything will be fine running a 3000.

I need to point out something...

What most people think is the PSP turning off is actually it's sleep mode (where you flick the switch and it appears to shut off). The hack is not undone in sleep mode, so you can pretty much keep the hack on indefinitely (unless you go three days without access to a charger or something).

It's fully shutting the PSP down (holding the switch) that undoes the hack.

But all you need to do is run the LCFW runner icon thing from the games menu to re-hack it after you've done it once.

I just got a PSP 3000.
The firmware is 6.35.
And erm, well, stupid question:
I have to put all the files necessary files for hacking unto this, right?:

http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/public/UD...ty4yS7rL9CORRFy

Only difference between the image and the one i have is that its black.

Also, i should follow the softmod guide, right? Or is it outdated? Asking since its not been updated since January...

Sorry, am still a complete noob when it comes to the PSP >_>;

EDIT: Whoops. I've been away from the PSP scene for a while. Please forgive me.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
    run h2testw on it

  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying

Samsung SD format can sometimes fix them too
  • Purple_Heart @ Purple_Heart:
yes looks like an faulty sd
  • Purple_Heart @ Purple_Heart:
@Psionic Roshambo i may try that with my dead sd cards
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    It's always worth a shot

@The Real Jdbye, I considered that, but i'll have to wait until i can get the eu version in the mail lol
