my cousin needs to buy this for her son before she goes to another country for Christmas, will this card work with whatever the latest DSi firmware is? Also is this right, If a new firmware comes out for DSi, the Super Card can update so it can work again?

It works with the latest DSi firmware, but you must use the included USB flasher tool to upgrade the SCDSi's firmware for it to work. This same process can in theory be used again in the future if Nintendo blocks out flash carts again.
