Look at the first page. That's exactly what happened to me when I was editing my guide a long time ago. I've learnt my lesson and I've backed it up in multiple places on my computer. [IMG]

The guide as I see it :

    Guide 1 : jailbreaking
Guide 2 : installing pkg (more like a tutorial to explain what the users will have to do later, to understand the guide quicker and better)
GUIDE 2 : INSTALLING PACKAGES TO XMB
    1) Put your pkg file to the root of your USB drive.

    2) Plug it in to your PS3

    3) In the XMB go to Game -> "? Install Package Files"

    4) Select the file you want to install and press X

NOTE : Some packages are signed and some aren't.
If you are using Geohot's Custom Firmware, only install signed packages. Usually you will find "Signed" or "GH" of "GEOHOT" in the filename.
If you are using another custom Firmware, do not install geohot's signed version of the packages.
    [/p]

Guide 3 : Transferring files (needs pkg installation knowledge)
    - FTP server. Transferring files over FTP (same as above, it's more a tutorial than a guide, there's no step like the jailbreak, as it will depend on the user's needs)

GUIDE 3 : TRANSFERRING FILES WITH FTP

    - PRE-REQUISITES -

    0) FTP Server

    [IMG] Download blackb0x FTP
    or
    [IMG] Download OpenFTP1.5
    [/p]
    1) FTP Client

    [IMG] Download Filezilla
    or your preferred FTP client.
    [/p]

    - PC STUFF -
    PS3 stuff
    0) Configure your PS3 network setting by going to Settings -> Network Settings -> Internet Connection Settings.
Note: If you want to enable FTP without internet access, just set 0.0.0.0 to the 'Default Router'
    1) Extract your downloaded FTP Server and put ftpserver_11.pkg or openps3ftp-nopass.pkg to the root of your USB drive and install the package (see GUIDE2).
    3) If you don't know your PS3 IP Addres, Go to Settings -> System Settings -> System Information.
    4) Go to Game and launch the ftp server you just installed.

    PC Stuff
    1) Launch your FTP client.
    2) Connect to the PS3 :
    - Filezilla : In the top menu put your PS3 IP address in the 'Host' field, and 21 into the 'port' field, and click quick connect.
At the bottom right part you will see the PS3 Internal HDD content, and at the bottom left your computer's folders.
    - FlashFXP : Click on the thunder icon at the top right and select Quick Connect. Server : put your PS3 IP and click Connect.
At the top right part you will see your computer's folders, and at the top left the PS3 Internal HDD content.
    3) Navigate to the desired location
    4) drag and drop the file or the folder you want to transfer from one window to another.
    5) To disconnect :
    - Filezilla : click on the red cross incon in the top menu.
    - FlashFXP : Click on the power cord icon in the top menu.

    PS3 Stuff
    1) Shutdown the FTP Server :
    - Blackb0x FTP : Press X to exit and retur to XMB.
    - OpenFTP1.5 : Press Home button and select "Quit Game" to return to XMB.
    - Comegenie's files Manager
Guide 4 : PSN (need pkg installation for blind_dev, and FTP knowledge), and/or Firmware Version spoofing. Explain why they need the spoof.
    Guide 5 : Game Managers
    - The main manager's list, and their differences (MM, Gaia, Rogero, .. and now Iris)
    - installation
    - folders explanation
    - dumping internal/external
    - transferring a game on external
    - HDD format (FAT32 and NTFS difference. how to setup NTFS in MM)
    - Loading the game from the list
    - Problematic games (black screen games).
    - Creating PSN-like games icon for XMB from PS3 games
    - Fixing eboot for running games needed a newer firmware on a lower firmware (running Gran Turismo 5 on 3.41).

    Guide 6 : Homebrew
    - run-able homebrew (.elf form), where to place them, etc.
    - Installable homebrew (explain the genre, like games, media player, FTP, applications, etc.)
    - explain here how the media players/homebrews are working ? Or point to their wikitemp page (we need to create them too!)

    Annexe : Additional knowledge
    - Version spoofing
    - Pkg Manager installer (from team rebug)
    - getting games updates (game manager 1.4x)
    - other ? (lan with Xkai ?, update spoofing with proxy?)

Some part are clearly tutorial-type on how a homebrew is working (like FTP server), than a guide telling the user "copy this file here, push this button without knowing what you are doing, congrats it's jailbreaked!".
I understand that some users prefer the noob style guide, with detailed step by step without understanding what they are doing, but I like explaining things to users. I think it's better that the users understand, first for their own knowledge, it will prevent brick, etc., and then for us as we won't have to answer the same thing all the time.

What do you think about this layout ? do you have any idea to add/change?
I'm asking to users like Slimmm, originality, the one always helping other users.
It's the layout I proposed to Zorua few days ago (I added few things in this post).
Let's work together to make a complete guide to PS3. (wiki is also a good choice to work together).

The page will be maybe too long, it needs a good layout.
I think too many spoiler looks ugly (like modmii guide, it's mostly spoilers without main guide out of spoiler)

Some loaders support no disc...but it's not perfect(Some games might still require disc).

Don't install KMEAW. Install Waninkoko's v2pup. It can run 80% of the games without a disc.

"Don't install KMEAW"... bad advice. It works, so why not offer it as an option? I don't care if I need to keep a disc inside to play games, because all the games still work.

EDIT: I formally accuse you, sir, of being a bit biased. Ok, more than a bit. You are a very biased person, as reflected in many of your posts and in people's initial responses to your posts (see the second post of this thread for an example).
    ...not that it'll change anything.

EDIT2: OK, I missed the point of it. I stand corrected.

I have a fat 40gb ps3 to mod would you recommend upgrading the hard drive first before installing cfw or is it safe to upgrade the drive when custom firmware is installed

As long as it's on OFW 3.55 or below, it's safe either way. I'd recommend upgrading the HDD before going to 3.55 CFW though.

I've no idea myself, but I'm happy sticking with 250GB stock and 1TB Samsung S2 external (2.5").

I made some Wiki pages to list all available homebrews (and maybe PC utilities if requested by users).
Each Homebrew will have its own page.

Do you know any homebrew I forgot to add to the list?

What do you think about the Homebrew page layout?
Do you think of any other informations to add in the infobox on the right?
I think hosting the homebrew on filetrip will be better than linking to other forums or website news when there's no official website, right? (Only when the dev is not against it).

Feel free to edit or add new pages using the same layout as Pongus. (I'm currently working on the Demos and will add some Games after that).

    Edit :
Some homebrew have multiple download for the same version, like 3.41, 3.55, 3.55-signed.
I think the infobox should contains only 1 "download" link, usually the latest release.
So, these homebrew should have a download section to list all available pkg type. Either in the changelog (keeping a link to every version?), or a "latest release" section only.

Wow Cyan! You must have spent a really long time working on it!
I don't think that you forgot any homebrew.
The layout is really clean. It looks very good.
Filetrip becomes kinda slow some times so I'd prefer mediafire.

Creating the list and page layout wasn't too long (2 days). The longest part starts now, filling all the pages [IMG]

It's a long job (if you add everything, like screenshot, changelog, etc.), but I think it will benefit the users to have all the homebrew in one place and not on a forum-like website. (most website news are using a forum and Post-like messages, we need to search in older pages to find everything).

If anyone can contribute, even without adding any section details, only the infobox, it will be great [IMG]

I wanna help but I've never used wiki before. How do I create pages for individual homebrew?

    There are 2 ways :

    1)
If you go to a page which is not created yet, you will have the choice to do so.
    For example :
    http://wiki.gbatemp.net/w/index.php?title=...an_exemple_page
Then you can select "Create the MultiMan_nonexistant page" to add content.

    2)
Go to a page with links.
On the list, when you click on a red link (page not created yet), it will go directly into the page creation for that link.

Then just Copy/paste the content from another page, like pongus (click edit on Pongus page to see the content), and change the data.
Do a preview, and if everything's fine before posting add a comment at the bottom like "page creation" "adding this or that" etc.

I prefer using the 2nd method, that way I'm sure there's no error in the pagename (upper/lower case). If a link is not yet present and you want to add one :

link to MultiMan with this link MultiMan : On wiki do [[MultiMan]]
link to MultiMan with this link Multi Manager : On wiki do [[MultiMan|Multi Manager]]

AmazingLarry apps like CFWload and others aren't there but those are mostly for devs.

I can help updating authors of homebrew maybe.

EDIT:Updated Utilities so every app has a description and author

Even if it's for the devs only, it can be useful to list it.
If you can add the ones I missed and their descriptions and authors it will helps.

    Thanks [IMG]

Oh, I forgot USB FirmLoader too [IMG]

No problem I'll add a whole bunch I have nothing to do but first im just going to finsh completing all the apps that currently have no description/author.

All System tools have description/author now.

Almost all back up managers have description/author now. I couldn't find anything on Thank you manager suprisingly.

Everything from Libraries down to Demos has an author/description besides Thank you manager.
