I have both and I would just get the slim. It will have more accessories and the same game library, albeit a worse screen but you'll never notice it. You'll also get longer battery life too.
You could very likely sell your 3.61 system and buy another for the same price.
I've owned a PS Vita 1K since 2013 and recently bought a Slim for hacking purposes.
IMO, you should only get the the 1K if you absolutely must have the OLED screen. Otherwise, the Slim is superior in just about every way.
It has a longer battery life, better button design, better ergonomics, a micro USB port, a smaller rear touchpad (this is a plus, trust me), it's also lighter, thinner and has a better grip.
Another thing i barely see anyone talking about is that the Slim's LCD screen is considerably less bright compared to the 1K's and that this is actually a very good thing. The 1K's OLED screen is incredibly bright even on it's lowest brightness setting which makes it just awful for use in low-light environments, whereas the Slim doesn't have this issue because the screen is actually dim enough on the lowest setting.
There's also the fact that the Slim's LCD screen doesn't have the OLED's strange mura effect (See http://i.imgur.com/uAPSf.jpg).
tl;dr: Get a 1K only if you absolutely need the oversaturated colors, otherwise get a Slim.
I'll just quote what i said on a different thread about the same thing...
Slim if you want to use 64gb cards. Been some issues with 64gb with Gen 1. Else the Slim have better battery and you can probably find one new inbox.
Maybe, I just read about it being some issues.I have 2 64gb cards and I haven't had any issues with the Gen 1 unit as of yet.It could have been older firmware that was having issues. Both my units(slim/fat) are on 3.60 fw.
i traded my 1000 for a 2000. trust me go slim. the difference in the screen is NOT much and the 2000 in your hands for long periods of time just feels better.
also in my experience, the 1000 would always drop connection to remote play. on my new 2000 its blazing fast
I hated the 1000 because id get tired of holding it after a while
Hardware longevity is always an issue in my mind.
OLED has longevity issues, to this day (even though the deep blacks and whatnot are nice with OLED). I also find it totally unnaturally saturated. On the other hand, the connector on the OLED model is far more robust than MicroUSB in my opinion. MicroUSB is mechanically inferior to me. The advantage is that MicroUSB is common and has a small connector, but the small connector is the a mechanical disadvantage in my opinion; too much mechanical stress over a tiny surface area.
But you can buy MicroUSB magnetic connectors on ebay to solve that problem (they would disconnect easily if the cable were tugged). With all that said, and if I only had to choose one, I'd choose the Slim.
Go for oled vita if you want to have a real sharp picture and colors. In my personal experience even psp games became playable. Enjoying gtavcs right now.So I'm kind of looking into getting a Vita again, now that there's actually some RPGs for it, and on top of that you can pretty much get any PS1/PSP game working on it. Back when I first had one, the only RPG worth playing was P4 Golden (which was so worth it, regardless).
Now, I'm kind of pissed I sold it for so cheap when they're still going for $150 now.....
Annnnnnyway.... I'm kind of at a standstill here. I don't have the cash quite yet, but I was researching it and discovered that for the most part both the original model and slim variant Vitas go for around the same price. However, it would seem that the "Blast from the Past" deal is the best way to go, with the original model that comes with two games and a memory card. Is the slim even worth it? From what I read, there don't seem to be any improvements and they actually skimped on the materials for the front screen, and it's no longer a vibrant OLED screen that the original had.

Also it has 1 gig more build in memory than 2k vita. 2k also claims to have longer battery life but I never felt like my vita lacks mAh.
Honestly? Unless you're looking at both, side by side? You won't notice to a different when just playing the game. Also, the slims battery life is far better. Average run time for me is 8-9 hours on medium brightness with WiFi and Bluetooth. The OLED model barely hit 6 hours.Go for oled vita if you want to have a real sharp picture and colors. Fat has 2.5gig ur0 partition.the slim vita has the 1gb built in memory.
and yes it does have a longer battery life by a few hours, you not noticing it doesn't make it any less true.
