Still, even Japanese text is pretty useless to anyone who doesn't speak or read Japanese just as much as question marks are.

Even if I installed the Japanese language pack, I'm not going to bother to attempt to translate all that Japanese "TV Antenna" text to readable English just for a bunch of games I'll never play. Like dbgtdob said, it's WAY too much work to be worth the effort, especially for a person who doesn't know Japanese in the first place. In my opinion, life's too short to muddle through a bunch of Japanese text-laden games when I can't understand the language. I'll either wait for the English version, the Euro version which will usually have English selectable or not bother to play them at all.

If someone wants to translate the Japanese codes to readable English, I'll add them, but my next usrcheat.dat upload will have the "screwed up" question marked Japanese codes removed until that time. The translation should be done preferably by someone who understands Japanese AND English to make it less of a chore. The original usrcheat containing those codes that likely aren't "screwed up" due to a lack of a Japanese language pack being installed is posted a few pages back by someone other than me.

If anyone has a problem with my decision to remove the question mark codes, I can always just update my dat file for myself and stop bothering to make it available for anyone else. I admit, removing the Japanese codes will kind of be contradictory to my goal of the ultimate usrcheat.dat, but since they are useless as they are anyway, I don't see any other choice but to just delete them.

I'll also admit that it was probably me who screwed up the Japanese codes when I added them to my dat since I obviously don't have a Japanese language pack installed. But let me remind you of the first line in this reply.

I generally don't use cheats, but I was trying to be useful to the community. I spent a lot of time adding all those codes and removing duplicates. It made me feel good to give something back to the community. I had many reservations when I saw all those question marks myself, but if my efforts are not appreciated and I'm just going to be flamed or belittled about any mistakes I made, I can just forget about continuing my usrcheat.dat project just as easily as I took it up.

I can take retman's attitude about it and say screw everyone else and just update the dat for myself, if that's what you guys would prefer. I'd rather not be like that though.

Don't stop your project just because of some Japanese codes. Its not your fault if you don't understand the language, don't get so worked up. I understand how hard it would be to translate them and I never asked you to do it. I thought maybe it was a mistake. I appreciate everyone who has contributed usercheat.dat files. I would keep them then people could translate or edit the codes themselves. Thanks for all the work you put into the cheat files.

I installed the Japanese language on my XP and still get all question marks on the Action Replay software for Japanese text. Any Ideas?

So... the newest Ultimate with ALL CODES?? :S

RIGHT HERE!

Added thomasroberts6's Pokemon Diamond codes to my mega-usrcheat.dat!

It is complete as far as I know.

I have now also included a blank CHEAT.DAT to make it easier for the less PC-literate.

USRCHEAT.rar (including blank CHEAT.DAT)

Cheers!

Updated the dat to include the extra Hoshigami codes and the Madden 08 codes. Also added the backlight codes to Madden 08 and corrected the name for Hoshigami from just "hoshigami" to "Hoshigami Remix"

For now, I have left the screwed up question mark Japanese codes simply because the actual codes are good, it's just the labeling of those codes that are messed up. I did this so if anyone wants to take it upon themselves to rename the codes correctly, they may do so. Just upload the corrected list so I can host it if anyone does fix them.

USRCHEAT.rar (including a blank CHEAT.DAT)

As for the MarioKart codes....I'd need the codes and ROM ID for the codes and then I could add them. I saw at least 2 MarioKart listings with different ROM ID's already in the list, but I don't know if they have any online cheats in them. So, if such codes exist and they're not in the list, post them and I will add them.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
