Hi

Can anyone help me.

I have heard a lot of things about fake Pokemon cartridges out and I just recently bought Pokemon Fire Red off ebay.

Can anyone tell if my cartridge is fake by my photos? I tried to look on the net but theirs so many fake ones out there its sorta confusing.

Thanks Guys

IMo it's fake because of USA Nintendo Seal (fakes are usually with USA's). But to be sure check if you get warning like: "Battery may run dry" or "Clock based events will not occur"? If yes then it's fake.

Is there somewhere with pics of all legit pokémon carts? There are a couple i'd like to get and it would be nice if I had something to check against.

100% FAKE.

Ways to tell a GBA cartridge is fake:
-Blurry label without the two numbers engraved on the right side.
-No "Â nintendo" on the top of the cartridge connector.
-Connectors have some randoms holes everywhere.
-If you open the cartridge the built quality is awfull (epoxy glue everywhere etc...)

I could have told you from the start that the cart was fake.

Not even looking at the plastic, the sticker is really messed up. The ESRB label is cut off at the bottom and the Fire Red logo is of the wrong font, size, and placement. There are also various other flaws with the cartridge indicating that it's a fake.

If you have any questions in the future and can get a picture of the game beforehand, go ahead and post on here. You will get a solid answer fairly quickly as to the legitimacy of your purchase.

Thanks guys for all your support on this one... There's so many different fakes out there.

Ebay is the worst for it and people sell them on there for almost £10 - £30

The game works fine but I wanna create a original collection eventually.

Thanks again guys for your support on this question.

When buying them off of ebay, never purchase ones from Hong Kong.

And while your game may work fine now, I've heard that the save file gets corrupt after the elite four on pirate copies.

Not exactly - fake games tend to get corrupt in 2 situations:

- After a certain amount of time has passed, depending on the battery quality. It varies but tends to be very low, ranging from a few hours to a few days. This means that if you tried to play it, you would have to restart every few hours/days.
- After putting it in the GBA slot of a DS and playing a Gen IV Pokemon game. The DS game attempts to connect to the fake GBA game and fails, corrupting the GBA save in the process.

Since Pokémon uses 128kb save files and fake carts usually can only use up to 64kb, it gets corrupted after the Elite Four.

100% FAKE! The texture of the sticker shouldn't be like that. it has to be glossy and there should be an word "Version" under the word "FireRed". And the cartridge shouldn't don't look like that if it's real. View spoiler of the real and fake Pokemon FireRed.

    I just recently picked up a n64 from a garage sell, and looking to mod it and add a HDMI port to it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3548173115...044&customid=4f3038da73b61afddf7e5e90f4153856
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    I'd like to find a power strip and HDMI selector built in 1 unit, so I can select which game system I want, and will switch to that hdmi, and power on that plug/power supply only, so don't have all game systems powered all the time, but can't find anything like. May just have to make something myself.

    Maybe start a kick starter page and sell them, yea right. Big N would prob C&D me, not anything Big N related, but just because that's what they do nowdays. Then come out with they own in a year or so.

    @Xdqwerty, Nice. Which operating system are you installing?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, windows 10 and some linux distro like linux mint

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.

    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
    I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

    @SylverReZ,
    I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

  • impeeza @ impeeza:
    @Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
