also you can tell if a 3RD gen cart is fake if it says "gotta catch em all" on it, they dropped it on the 3rd gen

Edit: Look at the plastic used in the cartridge housing. Games that came with translucent plastic might be solid-colored in counterfeits or vice versa.

Fire red is IMO the best pokemon game to be released so I'm glad people are still playing it...

Hey, I am in the same category here. I just bought a few games off ebay and they all say the save file is ok, which the real ones dont and my firered looks like the fake one posted on the first page.
I mainly wanted firered and sapphire so i could trade pokemon to soulsilver then to black, but since pal park dosent work with the fake ones this is impossible.

So my question is, if i bought a legit firered could i trade pokemon to it from my fake, then use the legit game to migrate?

any help would be appreciated!!!

Another way to tell that is a fake, as pointed out to me at another forum:

Just to add a couple of small points about GBA carts, a number of fake carts will have AGB-004 on the back instead of AGB-002 (the actual model number for carts). http://maru-chang.com/hard/agb/english.htm has all the model numbers for GBA hardware, AGB-004 is a charger for a battery pack.

the fake cartridge most likely won't work if you try and migrate it to the NDS pokemon games, if you have a nds with a flash cart, you may want to backup your save by dumping it with the GBA backup tool and try loading it onto a legit card when you get one but you may have to convert the save or something from 64 kb to 128kb

Not exactly - fake games tend to get corrupt in 2 situations:

- After a certain amount of time has passed, depending on the battery quality. It varies but tends to be very low, ranging from a few hours to a few days. This means that if you tried to play it, you would have to restart every few hours/days.
- After putting it in the GBA slot of a DS and playing a Gen IV Pokemon game. The DS game attempts to connect to the fake GBA game and fails, corrupting the GBA save in the process.

Since Pokémon uses 128kb save files and fake carts usually can only use up to 64kb, it gets corrupted after the Elite Four.

Can anyone tell if my cartridge is fake by my photos? I tried to look on the net but theirs so many fake ones out there its sorta confusing.

That they do. I regularly report auctions that are clearly for fake GBA carts.

Since he took off the sticker, I suggest opening it up and looking at the board (if you don't have the right screwdriver for it, a small flat heard screwdriver from a jeweler's kit can work too.)
If it looks something like this

Then it's fake.

If you are unsure, post a picture of the board and someone would be able to tell if it's real or not.
