PlayStation 4 Remote Play Coming to PC and Mac

Earlier today the President of Sony's Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, tweeted:
Shuhei Yoshida on Twitter said:
"Some people asked if we plan to provide Remote Play function to PC, and yes, we are indeed working on an official application for PC/Mac. :D

This sudden revelation comes just in time as many people are just now joining the PS4 bandwagon due to the Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday deals (let's just call it Black November, shall we?)

This news is also convenient as it comes right after the launch of Twisted's unofficial remote play application for Windows. While Twisted's app costs $10 to activate, there is no official information about how much the official app would cost, if anything.

Officially, remote play is currently supported for PS Vita, PSTV, and Sony Xperia phones. If what Yoshida tweeted is true then support will extend to Windows and Mac computers.

What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments!

I'd probably enjoy this even more if it weren't for the fact that I'm not really into any shooters, and that's the genre that'd benefit the most from being able to use m+kb. I'm not really sure about the other benefits, except for being able to alt tab for guides/videos. It still sounds nifty, though, and I'll definitely try it out when I get my PS4.

Here's what has me hyped... I'm a college student who only comes home for the holidays. This means that even though I'm 200 miles away I should be able to play PS4 without having to pack everything. Not only that but it means if I'm not playing it, my fiancé's little brother from my hometown can. Also... I know that the unofficial app works with mouse and keyboard, but I can't confirm or deny that the official one will.

Officially, remote play is currently supported for PS Vita, PSTV, and Sony Xperia Z2/Z3.
That's not entirely correct. Every Xperia device starting from Z2 and above officially supports Remote Play, meaning Z2, Z3, Z3c, Z3Tc, Z3+/Z4, Z4T, Z5, Z5c, Z5P.
But since this is an Android app, "officially" means nothing. The "official" app is available in xda with stripped out DRM checks that makes every Android phone compatible.

Thank you. I didn't know there were multiple models. I'll correct that.

Even if it doesn't, I'm sure someone (probably the same guy unless he's butthurt about losing $) will modify it so you can.
I think that certain guy's name starts with a T and ends in a wister.

just 2 days after that hacker charged 10 bucks for his exploit remote play. I love Schadenfreude
I think that he's the direct cause of the announcement.
Weird that they didn't "officially" give it to all android.
Nah, they want us to buy Sony phones.
I want android support for other devices as well, I have a note 3 n7505.
You can sideload it on almost any android running 4.0 or higher. Your Note certainly works.
RIP my productivity at work
Going to take extended potty breaks?
Could this somehow lead to piracy? :yayps3:
No.

I'm definitely happy about this. The xbox app on win10 works really pretty well right now, and having this as well is just nice

will it require as much bandwidth than PS4 game sharing / remote play ? not everybody has optic fiber.
I currently can't broadcast my games, and I can't watch my friends games or try her games because we don't have 8Mb/s upload speed. when I try the share game speed test ... 5% !
I have ADSL 12Mb download, 1Mb (128KB/s) upload. Why not downgrade video quality before broadcasting it? even 480p doesn't work.

lot of users are happy to get remote play for PC, but you all have fiber?
if it's only local because bandwidth is not enough from internet, I'd better play on my console directly.
What would be great is if they release an official driver for PS4 controller on computer. I don't imagine playing PS4 games with keyboard and mouse.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
