Hello, I've been pulling my hair out for the last two hours trying to figure out how to convert the .spd and .spt audio files found within Metal Gear Solid - Twin Snakes into a standard audio format but I've found no help online and what help I did find was an old outdated tutorial for Windows 7 that does not apply to Windows 10.

I know you have to install vgmstream but I haven't been able to get it to work and I'm so frustrated that at this point I'm hoping someone can post the one audio file I need from the game on here. I'm just looking to extract the HK PSG1 sniper firing sound and it's totally bogus that I have to go through hell and back just to get it. If anyone could help me out here I'd be extremely thankful as I'm sure someone already has all this crap set up, many thanks in advance!

VGMStream, you say? I have the foobar2000 plugin for VGMStream and l had updated it a couple months ago, too. When l make a text file and rename it to the extensions you mentioned, the .spd shows up as an openable file. However, .spt does not. And for what it means, the music l have for Twin Snakes are .dsp files.

Maybe you can try the foobar2000 version of VGMStream? Foobar itself can convert audio to .wav and such, as well as play audio. Or, you could upload an .spd and l'll see if it plays any good sound.

Great, do you have any tutorials you could link for installing VGMStream using Foobar? When I was trying to do so for Winamp all tutorials were outdated or didn't work.

Thanks to the both of you, for some strange reason most of the banks inside the "audio" directory had the exact same sound files but it's when I opened the "shared" banks that I found what I needed. Both of you guys rock and now that I know how to extract sound bank files I'm going to go on a extracting spree getting a ton of my favorite sounds from these old GC games.

Much appreciated!

Oh, so they were both an archive type. I guess foobar wouldn't have worked for that step anyway. Thanks for showing up, Barawer. Have fun ripping sounds, Renegadist.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
