Hello fellow members.
I was about to install the hwfly rp2040 core bought from China on my v2 switch, but recently i have read several horror stories about this chip causing black screens and killing consoles.
Does anybody have experience with this particular chip? Is it safe to install or im better getting an rp2040 zero? Is the flex also safe to install? Is there anyway to verify if the flex is ok?
Thanks in advance for your attention
No problem using these modchips, the problem is that people think that it is easy to mod a switch.
It is, for someone with experince taking apart electronics, doing microsoldering and have the right equipment to do so.
BUT for someone that dont have the right stuff (soldering station, tips, flux, cleaning, multimeter, microscope etc.)
And have never done any soldering/microsoldering, then this is not something you want to try for your first experience.
Youtube videos make it seem like a walk in the park, what you need to understand is that they use special hdmi microscopes when they do that.
In reality these points you are going to solder is so tiny that you cant see if you done it properly with the naked eye.
So 99% of the problems you read about is from total beginners that dont know how to do it properly and it’s just not the soldering part.
They dont disconnect the battery, they are ripping parts of when removing cpu shield, they damage flex cable connectors, they are damaging connectors by using force to pull sd card reader, emmc, ribbon cables.
Scrathing motberboard with sharp objects, no esd safety etc.
And the most important, they do not read all the guides/information that is on this board.
They look at a youtube video and then yolo
And when it’s not working, they panic and starting to remove stuff and ripping traces and points=total fuck up in a lot of cases.
The list can go on forever….
Edit: and they almost never make a backup of the emmc, keys etc. THE FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN HEKATE IS RUNNING THE FIRST TIME
And then they screw up the software part
