Just my opinion, but with Cel phones and tablets now involved in gaming at such a cheap price its really hard to cough up $60.00 for a WiiU game.

Home console games are certainly expensive... Even though they use optical media which is an inexpensive media, 3DS game paks which are flash based which is significantly more expensive to produce manage to cost $40 which is $20 less.

That said, one thing I learned with the 3DS (when I had to start buying legit games) is that if you don't buy a game right away you can find some nice deals later. For example, I bought Kid Icarus Uprising for just $15 in a sale in bestbuy* and you can find Resident Evil Revelations for $20 nowadays. Prices for new games are way too high but tent to get lower as time passes sometimes getting to half the price. I am pretty sure that with the Wii U the same thing will happen

*Compared to the original $40 price in the US and the $75 price they charge in my country I was really lucky

Yeah, because all other non-Nintendo console are justified to have $60 games but when Nintendo does "Gloom and doom, it won't do any good! How dare they make games that cost like games for other consoles! Boohoohoo blabla"
Oh, not to mention that when the other two get revealed there's a chance their games will cost more than that, but no one will complain, of course. Where's the "dislike" button when you need it? >.>

Complaining that AAA titles cost more than mobile games is like complaining a batch of fresh baked cookies costs more than a single chocolate chip.

Ford is doomed because Schwinn makes a damn nice bicycle.... lol

I agree there is a huge market for cheap phone games, but there is also a fairly large market for home consoles as well.

Unfortunately, home consoles aren't made exclusively of AAA titles and the game Angry Birds Trilogy in consoles have the same price as regular games so there is some truth that the games are priced according to their platform and not so much by their quality

you get my point.
No, I don't. New Super Mario Bros. is crazy-overpriced. :tpi:

//I get your point - "mobile" games have smaller budgets, smaller development teams, they're less complex in design, have shorter development cycles, they're easier to distribute etc. and hence cheaper. That said... :P

JerJer you have brought up a good point. This same topic, minus the WiiU reference, has been researched, and discussed in great deal, quite regularly in the last few years. People are finding similar enjoyment with IOS/Android games, and the result has been saving enormous amounts of money. One new WiiU/Xbox 360/PS3 game = $60+Tax, with the same budget, using a hypothetical cost of $5 dollars per game, one could buy at least 12 IOS/Android games. Is the joy/fun different? One thing is for sure, they are different experiences: controls, game length (at times), small vs. large screen display, etc... Arguably, the biggest difference in the experience is the hardware capability of IOS/Android mini-computers (phones) vs. home consoles, such as WiiU/Xbox 360/PS3. What do you guys think, are we paying more for games, due to the hardware capability of home consoles? If you think that's the case, why? I'd imagine there has got to be a strong desire to manufacture an official, quality-built, *standard* controller for IOS/Android games, so much so, that I wonder why we haven't seen the Apple iController. If Apple had a video out that wasn't expensive, and it was bundled with a great controller, is it enough to sway you into becoming an IOS/Android gamer? This same question is ditto for Android.

Not in my country. The 3DS version launched with a price of $30, and the console versions launched with a price of $40, if I remember correctly. Still overpriced, though.
Really bad example - New Super Mario Bros. games are dangerously close to "mobile" games.
I wouldn't go that far. Very rarely have I seen a mobile game that comes anywhere near as large or complex as NSMB... and that's saying something.
