teaching as in letting them know its okay to feel different, despite what others might say.
Let kids know it's okay to feel the way they do when they present it as a concern, not before. At that point it becomes suggestive. Everyone is "different".

whats wrong with saying its ok to be different before they know? I dont see a problem?Let kids know it's okay to feel the way they do when they present it as a concern, not before. At that point it becomes suggestive. Everyone is "different".
no, you arent getting what im saying bro. Im trying to say that incase they feel different in the future, that they should know its fine. Im not supporting manipulation, they should still discover themselves, but they should be supported along the way"Before they know?". That's fucked up.
If a kid is happy, suggesting that they are being manipulated is not doing them a favor.
i see, cool to know!I can't speak for teachers everywhere, but I can speak towards my own personal experiences.
No specific topic is "banned" in my classroom; anyone is allowed to discuss what they like (after our class wrap up time), so long as they follow the rules we have posted on our door (namely not to talk over each other and to remain quiet while the teacher is talking.) It's my job to ensure safety and decorum, not to micromanage or forbid conversations.
With that being said, most of our post wrap ups are usually about movies/games/music/sports, with occasional religious, moral, and mythological discussions mixed in. It's a good time!
I've been in countless Board/Zoom meetings for the past 6-7ish years because of political topics and school violence/shootings. We discuss gender identity and political influence far too often for my liking, and about 70% of the time meetings end with back handed remarks or nasty arguments. It's far more exhausting than actually teaching lol. I grew up thinking adults were mature, only to find out that they're literally just children with wrinkles.
My district's current (and longstanding) position on the topic, though, is that LGBTQ+ topics fall under "health", not politics. I'm not a health teacher, so I'm supposed to refer any and all questions about the topic to our health department.
In all my years of teaching, I personally haven't run into any issues in my own classroom regarding LGBTQ+ matters. Red vs Blue politics, certainly. But nothing regarding identity.
I agree that children should feel like they have their community's support. Suggesting that certain topics are taboo sows doubt and insecurity.no, you arent getting what im saying bro. yeah, support should be given to them, they should feel like they are safe. In the case of lgbtq youth, they should feel like they can come out to their parents without being scaredI agree that children should feel like they have their community's support. eh, im just not ready to come out, my sister knows thoughAre you scared of expressing yourself to your parents?
then that goes both ways and the christian cultists don't get a say either, simple asJust don't let extremists come up with the curriculum and rules, simple as hell.
Why bother even having a conversation if you wont even acknowledge reality?are you saying that teaching teens/kids that being yourself is ok is brainwashing? im a bit lost here.
Well everyone can have a voice sure, but in this case a certain group of extremists are making all the rules and attacking anyone who questions them. A bigot is a bigot, and it seems that since Trump was president a lot of self proclaimed "left wing" bigots think they are saving the world.then that goes both ways and the christian cultists don't get a say either, simple as
Do us a favor and say what you really mean. Saying you are defending lgbtq completely obfuscates the issue. I say this because people online are continuously misrepresenting reality.yeah, support should be given to them, they should feel like they are safe. I think he's having trouble understanding whether or not his feelings indicate that he belongs to a flag.Do us a favor and say what you really mean. Saying you are defending lgbtq completely obfuscates the issue.
i mean, im going to tell them when im ready, my sister is also bisexual so it was easy to come out to herPersonally, I struggled with understanding this for a long time, but I have arrived to a conclusion that you may or may not agree with.
I think the people who you want to know how you feel about things are the people who should know. You are only holding yourself back. You may feel regret if your parents aren't as accepting or understanding as you hoped, but hiding from that experience is only a wasted time to actually know yourself and those who are important to you better.
If you can be confident enough to know how to express yourself and why it's important, none of the labels matter.
huh? whats wrong with what i said? i dont get it?Why bother even having a conversation if you wont even acknowledge reality?

wdym?I think he's having trouble understanding whether or not his feelings indicate that he belongs to a flag.
Honestly though, every single Democratic Party talking point obfuscates reality these days. Starting with the fact that they and the media are "left wing", they are so far from that it isn't funny. Chomsky once pointed out that the reason they do this is so that they can act as if you cant go further left than them.I think he's having trouble understanding whether or not his feelings indicate that he belongs to a flag.
