Hacking Old Ps3 Slim jailbroken on 3.55 CFW with broken HDD - ideas?

Hey guys,

So I took my old PS3 slim out from storage the other day and it wouldn't start.

The error was something like: "Cannot start, the correct storage/HDD was not found".
The HDD was also making clicking noises hence I'm guessing the HDD is broken.

The Ps3 was on 3.55 Kmeaw CFW.

I was planning to get a SSD to replace the failed HDD - would getting my Ps3 up and running again simply be:
1. Inserting the replacement SSD into the PS3 hard drive slot
2. Installing rebug firmware 4.82 via USB thumbdrive

what i did to replace a hhd on one off my cfw ps3 was just have the same cfw your on and swap the hhd and just install threw recovery mode or just let it do it when you power on the ps3 should get a on connect control and use 3.55 Kmeaw CFW amd reinstall

RIght ok, so rather than installing the rebug firmware, I should install the 3.55 Kmeaw CFW firmware instead? (Via USB thumbdrive)

Any idea where one can download such an old CFW in 2018?

What's better about kmeaw than REBUG? I think REBUG is great I have 255 games (PS3, PS2, PS1) all working.

At least for REBUG you don't install 3.55 firmware you have official 3.55 firmware but you're installing 4.82 custom firmware.

I think you had it right in the first place.

1. install new hdd
2. install REBUG 4.82
3. ???
4. PROFIT

install kmeaw on new hdd

make sure your qa toggled

install rebug 4.82xx

Thanks all, I followed the advice and now the PS3 is working fine on 4.82 Rebug.
It was a breeze to fix... ahh the wonders of 3.55 FW!
