Hacking Ok, this is a first for me. I wan't to hack my Wii

Ok, so my Wii is a complete virgin, and I want to **** her up a little bit (Pardon the coloful language)

I am currently running System Menu 4.1.

I would like to know the best way to softmod my Wii without bricking it completely. I have never done this before, but I'm not afraid to try new stuff. Can anybody help me with this, I mean what should I use. ModMii or what?

I should also note, that I do not have access to Windows on my machine, well not natively of course, I mean I do have virtualbox and I can mount my SD card in XP or whatever under that.

Yes Modmii does everything, including a guide. Use the Wizard and generate all the files and guide. Use a 1 or 2GB SD - Sandisk works well, cheap cards = problems.

At times nothing on the Wii seems to move - patience, wait and all will be sorted.

Use modmii, yes. It really can't get done any easier than that. Can't say on which OS'es it works, though (except windows).

If you get stuck at any point, get back to this thread and ask a specific question. There's a lot of things to learn. They're not hard, but you need to grasp them.


For the time being: you don't "just" brick your wii if you follow instructions. Most mentioned programs are either safe or contain sufficient warnings in advance.

Still: you may want to avoid formatting the wii memory at any point (it won't help) or update your wii to 4.3 (that will only make softmodding harder).
