Goodbye second-hand AC:CF bundles. That is, if they want to use the channel.

Then again, someone might make a homebrew app like the Speak channel but with more features...

Actually, it is $30 even.

But, I agree, this is kind of stupid.

EDIT: Forget my second part.
They'll sell it here in the UK for £60.
are you sure it is not the bundle with Animal Crossing that is that expensive?

That's with the Animal Crossing bundle, unless your buying it off Gameplay.co.uk in which it's £50. No clue how much the peripheral is alone though.

Whats the point in pirating the channel if you don't have the neccessary hardware (the mic).

unless it's compatible with other mics (unlikely)

edit: oh i suppose if u get it second hand... sorry i misunderstood this discussion a little.

Most likely they'll sell the Wii Speak channel in the shop for the low low price of five extra bucks.
Making any used purchase for twenty five bucks pointless.

wouldn't it just use a USB mic? so wouldn't ANY USB mic work? I don't see what they could do that would make it any different...

There will probably be some protection in place.
I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard for them to make the mic have some unique identification and limit access only to that device. Or there could just be extra neccessary hardware within the mic.

Personally i'd prefer a wireless mic that you can hold, or at least one that sits on your table or floor.

But maybe some hackers will take the challenge of hacking compatability with standard mics.

I would love that MP3G kareoke homebrew for wii to have mic support

imho it is very wrong if true.

If you can't use the mic without a net connection and downloading the channel first.

Say someone has no net connection?

In the UK, they would need to buy the game, with mic and also a 1 year internet contract (most are), or something like a 3g bundle. Oh what if they don't have a pc? Can you just get the internet for the Wii alone and set it up if your just an average joe off the streets?

It's very presumptious of Nintendo to assume everyone already has the internet, therefore it discriminates against the poorer peeps.

Really these are GAMES, designed mostly for kids (or the kids in us) imho they should come complete without "hidden costs"

Well that's my 2 cents

oh and...
