I think Nintendo's next handheld will just be a better upgrade of the DS. Better graphics, better touch screen durability + response, better speakers, and probably bigger screens and better wifi, etc. Mainly improvements to the DS.

i wish for better 3D, since 3D games mostly suck at DS. (AND NOT 3Ding the original 2D games to 3D, plz)
screen size seems kinda Ok to me, maybe attached dual screen, and games can virtually divide them.

Nintendo could go super-tech, and have a system where parts of the screen could raise, for buttons.

Well since we're now discussing things that are completely unplausible, I think the next DS will read your mind and know what you're going to do before you do it. That would completely eliminate the need for buttons!
You mean that everything before that post was possible? I can't wait for a gamecube the size of DSL, with a couple of touch screens and uber battery life

1) backwards compatible with DS
2) still dual screen
3) gesture capable like the iphone
4) built in PDA like software
5) built in browser
6) internal memory/flash memory
7) cartridge design
8) more durable
9) better battery life
10) still cheap!

Apparently according to a rumour from kotaku (trying to find the source) about a new DS revision with bigger screens.

Anyway here's to hope the next gen handheld has built in browser and mp3 player.
Maybe a Microwave?

Edit- Found the source although it is "heavily doubted"

I wouldn't really want it to be as powerful as say GC/Xbox or whatever as we'll end up with PS2 ports like the PSP got.

That's true. Urza, don't be such an argumentative fool. He makes a valid point. Most of the tech in game systems we have today was available years ago, but obviously companies didn't implement it back then because the tech was either new, unrefined, hard to produce, or too expensive. So, in a couple years, GCN or what have you graphics will be what we're looking at in the next DS.

-GCN Graphics
-Multimedia: .mp3s, and the range of video format support.
-Built in wireless with browser
-Cartridge based media, to lower battery consumption. We have 32GB SD cards coming out in a little while, so down the road they will be cheap enough to mass produce.
-Double touch screens, higher resolution and better covering.
-Same clamshell design
-Ability to accept whatever removable media is common (microSD, SD, SDHC, etc.)

If most of these features aren't implemented, I doubt I'll be getting whatever Nintendo has up next.

There are so many factors to consider that making such estimates are completely useless.

I guess the very best graphics power we'll be able to hope for is what this produces, although I suspect that that Nintendo would probably use something lower powered.
Nintendo may use a chip like this if it's cheap enough to integrate into a portable gaming device that is reasonable to the "mass market" they have been trying to convert and if it takes doesn't sacrifice long battery life. There are other things they have to consider (many, many other things), but I just wanted to point out the two "big IFs". Nintendo is very crafty with their portable gaming devices and I hope they're not going to destroy their biggest tradition.

EDIT: Awesome news.

I would still rather see them shrink the gamecube internals. Devs already have knowledge of the code for those games, so the transition wouldn't be too hard.

do you think this topic should get stickied? 'cuase i mean, even when the next hanheld comes out you could still be talking about the next one after that.

There is no way that chip can run rthdribl at any reasonable framerate (rthdribl is on the screen)

There is a lot more than just one graphics chip in a game system
