Are all the translated blocks already inserted back to the game?
Do you rebuild the game frequently to see if it works and the conversation flow is fine, or do you re-insert only part of it (only the tested portion) and will have to merge them all before release?
Our current process grabs all of our images and text and crams them into our current patch file. We patch a clean rom with our xdelta file, so we always get the latest version of everything.

I actually own the PS3-version, but i want to wait so i can play this first ; )

You can play the PS3 version straight away, it's the same game with a bonus part at the end. ;)
There are some differences here and there, but it's not another story/a prequel-sequel.

same for me :)
I tried beginning of both, and I decided I'd play DS version first.
And I have a lot of other games to play while waiting, so it's fine waiting again few months.

seriously why takes so much time? there is already ps3 eng version so you just need copy and paste texts.
it's not as straightforward as you may think, there's tons of things to take into account, besides the story differs in some points, look at this thread: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/998014-ni-no-kuni-wrath-of-the-white-witch/66220419 beware of spoilers though.

And that's just the peak of the iceberg:

graphic translation
The Wizard's Companion Book is also different

That's hilarious. The number of things that are not even similar between the games from a technology standpoint - designed for different screen sizes, TV vs small DS, and the battle system is totally different and the plot is significantly different, so... Yeah. That was probably the funniest thing I've read in this entire thread, so at least there's that.

If it was even remotely possible we would have done it already. Don't worry we're taking all the shortcuts that we can.

at any rate I played the DS japanese version (bought a copy) and while it looks GORGEOUS on my 3dsxl,
it feels like i'm missing 90% of the atmosphere due to not reading kanji.
When ni no kuni 2 comes out i'll buy a ps4 for it, and once ni no kuni 5 is out on ps6 in 2030 I can when I'm old and gray perhaps play an english rom of the DS - need to buy a backup ds machine in case the current breaks down.

FYI: If you're interested in seeing the sprites and backgrounds for the DS game to see just how nice they are, you can check out this rip on spriter's resource:

Also! I'm back from vacation, so I'll post more regular progress updates here.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
