I will believe it once Microsoft officially mentions it. Besides I remember hearing something awhile ago that the decision to always be connected would be up to the publisher. Don't remember where I heard it but I am sure someone does.

It won't happen during the rise of Next Gen's, no, but it's entirely possible that by the end of their lifespan, the face of the Internet will change greatly.

They had their PR confirming that to not one, but multiple media presses. They saw all negative feedback and started backpedaling.

Sony is doing the same thing. Nintendo is the only one that won't require always-on and charge extra for used games. They did something nice, they offer rewards for buying new games.
