Hacking newb to this

ok heres the deal, i got my wii a little less than a month ago, its dandy.
so recently ive been lookin at how to mod the wii and ive noticed that a lot of them require soldering, which i have no clue about.
so the wii-clip caught my attention, but then how do i know if it will work on my wii? are there different versions, which mine could have, that wont allow it to work properly? any help would be appreciated.
