Hacking Newb! Help please??

Damn. Okay. I did the SD card like you said. didnt work. Does that mean my R4 doesnt work?
I tried to card on my DSi And DS lite and both time it brought up spongbob game, which isnt even on there...

Please, make an effort to write something that can be understood.
Post photos, a lot of photos.
Post a photo of your R4 card, front, back.
Post a photo of the the folders and files you have put into your SD, something similar to the explorer photos that migles posted will do.
Post a photo of the microSD you are using.
Post a photo of the the screen of your DS Lite, showing what happens when you put the R4.
Post a photo of the menu that appears in your R4.
Post a photo of what happens when you select a given game on the menu on your R4.
Explain where and when did you buy your R4.
There are many very different R4 versions, that use different kernels, support different systems and different microSD sizes.
They are all called R4, just because, but are different things.

You say you have a DS Lite, please try the card in the DS Lite.
The game that appears in your DSi is a fake game that the card uses to make the system believe it is a real card.
After you go into the game, a menu shall appear.
But it is quite possible that card is not compatible with your current DSi system version, so try on a DS Lite.

can you try to take pictures of the card itself so we can may have a clue from wich website the card is?

are you willing to remove the card plastic to show how it is inside? but don't break it...

the pictures you showed us, you are doing right. you just now need to test the card on a DS LITE.
if it doesnt work on the DS lite you need to find the right files for that card..
the problem is, without the sticker we don't know for sure which files work with that card
so you must try to boot on a ds LITE, (or a original DS) with several files...

please make sure to erase the card everytime you try new files, so they don't mix

also, lets focus just on make it work on the DS LITE, because the card can be blocked on the dsi firmware. and with the DS LITE we are sure it is not the dsi thats blocking it

Sorry if I came up as rude with that post, that was not my intention and I apologize for that.
I started writing that before you posted the message regarding photos, and saw that message after I posted (hence my EDIT line in the message)
The spongebob image is normal, it is what I explained before, a fake game image to make the system believe it is a real cart, it will show that no matter what game you use.
Regarding the black screen after you go into the game, I think you are using a wrong kernel that doesn't match your card, but I am not sure which kernel you card needs.

I don´t know maybe your R4 its fake there are a lot of cheap original r4 on ebay i think i bought my r4 for 8 dollars and it works on my 3DS 9.7 US
If you want to play GBA Games on a flashcard you should buy a SuperCard DSTWO its the best flashcard for DS/Dsi/3DS/2DS it works on the newest frimeware and it seems it will work on the future frimewares it even works on a new 3ds and you should boot the spongebob game in order to work can you tell me where you bought that r4?
I can give you advices
I have a R4 With DS/NES/GBC/SNES/GEN games and they work there are a GBA Emulator but it only works with some games the pokemon games seems not work
EDIT: I couldn´t found SuperCard Dstwo on Ebay or any other r4 but you can buy it from this site on the ShopTemp

format the sd
download the first,
put on the sd
try the card on the ds lite.
then repeat for the other files

(make sure to dont use them at same time)
if they don't work. you probably are better getting the one i told you to get..

yeah, the card i showed you it works with DSI and even 3ds or New 3ds, with last firmwares.
the card i showed you is from the "good brand"
its the only r4 you should get.

the best one is the DSTWO, but its about 40-50 dollars price. i have a dstwo.. they stoped being manufacter, so now they are pretty rare and getting super expensive

Choose the one that says R4i Gold 3DS RTS, it has great compatibility and works on almost all games except for Animal Crossing: Wild World. It should have a somewhat black reflective holographic sticker that says that and the website r4ids.cn

I have a R4 SDHC Dual-Core and it works great its like 8 dollars and it has great compatibility i also used it to play pokemon rom hacks like

>Pokemon Blaze Black and Volt White
>Pokemon Sacred Gold and Storm Silver
i also recomend those games where there are a little more challenging than the original games and you also can catch all the pokemon and get even items

If you need a good R4i card get the R4i Gold RTS 3DS from R4idsn.cn I have 2 of them my friend has one for his 3DS I use mine in 2 DS Lite's one for me and one for my wife, I have an EZ-Flash 3in1 that I use with mine to play GBA games on my DS Lite. http://nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=149 you might be able to find it for cheaper on other online stores, I highly recommend this card I can also give you any files you may need for it.

Did you format your SD card with the Panasonic SD Formatter with the Overwrite(Full) option? it fixes issues with certain games.

Yup. Tried it on several microSD cards and it still doesn't work. Others have this issue as well.
