He could have worded that better (in regards to the playable characters), but technically he's not wrong.
Originally, you were only able to use Nabbit in New Super Luigi U if you were the 4th player.
In New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, you're able to use him in the normal version of the game as well.
Not only that, you're also allowed to choose/play as any character you want and switch them around whenever you feel like it (characters are no longer locked to player slots/modes like on the Wii U).
- Mario
- Luigi
- Yellow Toad
- Blue Toad (Press/hold L over Yellow Toad)
- Toadette (Less skidding on ice, like Nabbit; Super Acorn blocks replaced by Super Crown when hit by her; Can still use Super Acorns from the overworld or player drops)
- Nabbit (Can hold items now; Other than that, he's the same as before)
Characters aside, if you happened to own the original collection from the Wii U bundle and got a defective copy (like me) and weren't able to complete the game, then that's more than enough of a good reason to buy it. The collection from the bundle was never sold separately and due to it having its own save file (marked as NSMBU+NSLU) you weren't allowed to use it with the standalone copies or DLC (iirc). One thing I like about the Switch version is that it isn't bloated with bonus videos (that made the original collection/bundle be 14GB), unless you had the base game and got NSLU as DLC. At least the bonus videos are simply hosted online now to save storage space.
Not necessarily. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, as far as I look at it, does not "Contain" New Super Luigi U, it IS New Super Luigi U as well. You cannot play as Nabbit in New Super Mario Bros. U.... But New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is indeed New Super Luigi U AS WELL as New Super Mario Bros. U.... So that being said Nabbit isn't new. LOL
And just because now player 1 can be a certain character doesn't mean the characters player 1 can be are new.
(Other than Toadette.)
"Digital Foundry has done an analysis on New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and it runs at a constant 1080p 60fps in docked mode and a constant 720p 60fps in handheld mode, even with four players. "
Yeah, thanks for that I guess... not that it was ever a problem since the game on wii u runs at constant 60FPS as well, and also nabbit was playable in the luigi dlc, obviously mario wasn't in that, so he had to fill the 4th player slot.
Still I'm disappointed. I like the game but i was really hoping they would make the 2 DS and the wii game in HD and sell it as a New Super Mario HD collection. I would buy that for $60 than a carbon copy of the past console gen title with the only addition is a child friendly character like Toadette. It's also a missed opportunity for Donkey Kong Country returns as well to have a compilation game. It just seem like leftover ideas added as a after thought.
Don't do compilation games, just add a feature to make the game more accessible to everyone. Though that's not really my concern. That comes from selling it for $60 full price possibly to make up lost sales from wii u. Bayonetta compilation on switch is exactly a carbon copy with nothing added besides the expected change of enhanced performance, resolution, and load times being short. I don't want to come off as entitled or anything, but I don't see any other company publishing ports of a carbon copy for $60, don't see any other developers porting titles of the same quality time + budget to newer consoles at the same $60 they originally sold for.
But obviously this is for people who didn't already pay for the game previously and wanted to experience the game. I just wish they reach a compromise of trying to maximize payout of new players and compensation for people who stood by their side during the game debut.
Personally, New Super Mario Bros. 2 is my favorite New Super Mario Bros... If they made New Super Mario Bros. 2 in HD (So it looks like New Super Mario Bros. U on the television/handheld), added 4 players instead of just 2 and called it New Super Mario Bros. 2 Deluxe, I would have been FAR more satisfied.
But obviously that costs work, time and effort. Something they clearly were not going for when they were making this port.
And WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! Bethesda released DOOM Unto the Evil some years ago at 60 dollars. A MUCH deserved price...
Years later when DOOM is now like 15 dollars at Gamestop, they butcher the graphics, remove like 50 percent of the game and make a horrible version of DOOM and port it to switch (WORSE than a carbon copy.) and guess what price it is? Exactly. 60 dollars.
Portal Knights was like I think 15 dollars on PC. Had updates, content, etc.
They remove MOST of the stuff in Portal Knights and filled it with bugs and horrible framerate exclusively so they can port it to Switch for 30 dollars. ._. Again, WORSE than a carbon copy.
What do you mean you don't see carbon copies being lazily ported? LET ALONE WORSE THAN A CARBON COPY BEING LAZILY PORTED AND FULL PRICED, MORE THAN THE BETTER VERSION?
And yes. Many of their Wii U Ports (Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Pokken Tournament, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, etc.) is because they just want to reach it to more audiences and make some more money off of games they made in the past. I don't hate it. But I do dislike the fact they put effort into all of these ports instead of new games, now.
wow no shit it does it's only a damn 2d game!
Is this a funny joke or something? You either are joking or have no idea what you're talking about.
2.5D*, which can sometimes be demanding even on PS4/XB1 hardware depending on the game. Then again, Sony/MS don't usually bother to target 60 FPS at all with their first-party stuff.
LOL Since when does Microsoft or SONY make games? XD Their "First Party" They have first Party games?
I understand God of War is funded by SONY and etc., but it doesn't make it THEIR game or THEY made it. No they just bought the rights to force the developers to only create the game for their consoles. SONY has no say whether it's 60FPS or not.
Why does Miiverse no longer exist and why did Nintendo decide there will be no Miiverse on the Switch?
Thanks for the correction. I only ever played as Mario in New Super Mario Bros. U and as Luigi in New Super Luigi U so I never knew.
I would love to play this at 1080p 60fps. It’s the best 2D platformer on the Wii and 3DS.
I knew you would say that. They don't say it was shit. They cancelled Miiverse for professional reasons. It was not doing what they expected it to do as far as business goes.
Waaaait, you didn't know Nabbit was a playable character in New Super Luigi U?
That was meant to be apart of the selling point... that's... Odd. I wonder how that happened.
Wii? Very good one. Not sure about the BEST but up there.
3DS? Not at all. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is EASILY better than Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. In fact, any of them are. IT has horrible framerate on 3DS, the graphics are HIGHLY compressed and it is just better on Wii. If they built the game from the bottom up then it would look better and play better, but it was a lazy ports. LOL
