This is the DSi all over again. It's a slight upgrade specs wise to the 3DS, but the confusion with customers means not many games exclusive to this one will sell very well. They will be forced to make hybrid games that have "New 3DS enhanced features" or something else stupid to that effect. So they will still work on the 3DS, but some features like higher FPS or 3D in more locations would be what to expect.(Future pokemon games might benefit from this though. Seeing that it only has 3D in some areas to to limited 3DS specs. Pokemon X/Y already has noticeable lag in double/triple battles even with 3D disabled. Enabling 3D in single battles causes lag in many situations as well)
But I think this is an ass backwards marketing thing they are doing. They are setting themselvs up for failure just like with the Wii U. The terrible name along with the bad marketing caused confusion among their target customers, so not many bought one. The same thing might happen with this.
They just tacked on "New" onto the name. Honestly with how well their 3DS is doing, they should have just waited a couple more years and then release a proper follow up console.
Given the time that separated the DS and the release of the 3DS, we are only 2 or so years from their next generation handheld console. This "New 3DS" is just some boneheaded marketing decision to try and milk people of their money before they release their next gen handheld a mere one year after they release this "New 3DS".
So ***king stupid and I have no plans on buying one.
