I wonder if gateway has any plans to release a new card that combines the ability of sky3ds and gateway in one but no 10 game limit. I'd buy that day 1 because they've done well proving themselves.

I wonder how they would replicate GW 4.5 abilities to higher firmwares...

Unless there's something in the new workaround/exploit that'd prevent it - they/someone will find a way sooner or later.
well the new cards simply emulate a retail card, there is no exploit to back them up.....the majority/all of gateway features rely on the kernel exploit that only works on 4.x, so unless a new 9.x kernel exploit is found the best people can hope for is a gateway branded version of sky3ds that doesn't have the 10 game limit, but you would still be region locked and not be able to run any modded games/eshop games

At this point there's only one thing that I dislike about that prospect. Which is that Rune Factory 4 doesn't have an EU release and will be an eshop title.
*sigh* Ah well...

Then again, a matter of time. I'm sure that by the time I'd work through the existing library a new solution will present itself.

i got a question, is the 10 game limit an artificial limit by the team or some kind of physical limit to make this card word?

Right now, it seems that if it is a physical/technical limit, then it is one by choice - not by necessity.
Based on what others have mentioned about the chips there should be valid alternatives that could do the job.

That said, there is no definitive proof that its a physical limit and there have been claims that it is possible to 'clear' the list and start over with 10 new games.
I guess time will tell once more definitive information/proof becomes available.

oh thanks for the answers, i guess this mean we should see a clone or something without the 10 game limit soon. i dont know much about this kind of thing but i thought there might be some kind of limit that need a non rewritable read only memory to bypass 3DS security

Well as some have pointed out - this is technically possible (again, no definitive proof either way), and could theoretically be worked around by using different hardware internally for the 'clone' card.
That was said in pure speculation however, purely based on their knowledge with the hardware - but lacking the facts on the internal workings of SKY3DS' functional workings.

Its still up in the air with no clear answer either way.

3DS' are regionlocked - this should also count for the New 3DS.
So no, that should not work.

Nintendo would probably be breaking some compatibility, or adding a big workload in accounting for a fixing that compatibility, if they started treating Oz N3DS as a seperate region to EU when they've been treated as 99% identical up until now.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
