Meh, FFTA clone, no thanks.
Argh, people who say stuff like this really ticks me off. Just because it's that same type of battle system, the characters, storyline, makers, almost nothing is the same. This game is NOTHING like FFTA, it's just the tactics thing. This is like saying Advance Wars, FFTA, Onimusha, Advance Wars 2, and many more, are all not worth buying, because you already have a game like it.

I'm confident a few of you are tinkering with this release now --

Any comments on how this rates in storyline & gameplay compared with other GBA strategy releases (i.e. Fire Emblem, FFTA, Tactics Ogre, Advance Wars). Share some pros & cons.

Thanks for your opinions!

It goes that way because of the isometric view. You'll get used to it quickly.

I guess I'll peruse this a bit. It's good that it's 64mb too. Hopefully Harvest Moon will be as well and I can put them both on.

I've just realised that the fact that it has an intro is a good thing. It means that there was enough empty space at the end to stick it in there, meaning you can truncate it well. That doesn't mean I'll be keeping it there.

Remember, it's EEPROM, so SRAM patch it first.
I had a bash at it, and I can say that it's pretty good.
It doesn't have the sheen or graphics of FFTA and the animations are a little boring. However, I really like the prospect of being a samurai in the game. I think it could make for very interesting gameplay.

As soon as I go further into the game, I will post my impressions of the storyline.

I gotta check this out! I liked FFTA and overall I like tactics games, but it tends that some of them don't usually come with a good story line, I hope this one does.

Bleh, this is a letdown.
FFTA is SO much better then this.
You just go through the missions, and its SO easy.
You can target spells on your own characters and they do not get hurt.
They butchered FFTA and made a sub-par game.
I do not recommend this over FE or FFTA...

Anyone who has not tried the PS2 Onimusha 1 & 2 really should do, to see where this has come from.
They are survival horror games set in Feudal Japan.
The story is great, the gameplay is awesome and the graphics are sweet! I prefer it to Resident Evil anyday.

Also soon to come is the third installment which features Jean Reno as a playable character. I can't wait.

For what it's worth, I'll second Thug's sentiments about the PS2 versions. Definitely worth checking out!

Thanks again for those who are offering opinions on this release. They are so varied I guess I'll have to look into it myself and form my own opinion.

I've played, and beaten, the first Onimusha in one sitting at my friend's house on the first shot. Of course he guided me, but it was still pretty simple.

I really like the Onimusha games, I wanna try the 2nd one, and I can't wait for the third.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
