Hardware Need confirmation from someone who replaced their CPU

I have a motherboard that's like this:

Where the CPU is accessed by lifting a metal pole. One day I decided to practise to see how easy it is to replace it. I put the CPU back in making sure the notches and everything is correct and when I pushed the metal pole down, I heard this unnerving snap noise. Is this meant to be normal? Sorry for such a newbiw question.

depending on the snap. it could have just been you locking the cpu to the motherboard.
