The slowdowns are normal in this game... read this review.
http://www.gamespot.com/ds/strategy/ageofe...ngs/review.html

You will see it 2/3 of the page down

The part where the review says something about the screen getting cluttered isn't what I'm talking about. There's slowdown/audio glitches in the menus, pre-game 'cut scenes', ismetric movement parts, and definately in the battle scenes.

I've seen it run on my mate's SC SD and its fine. So gutted.

Hmm....

Put everything else back on the card, however, and its slow again.

Even tried freeing up an extra 100mb to see if it needs a lot of free space, but no joy...

Yup, looks like the only way it runs smoth for me is if I format the card, then only put Aoe on. Anythign else ruins it, and I have to re-format.

Runs without problems on my Supercard SD!

And i have to say its a realy great game!
No reason to criticize the turn based gameplay!!

But my question is: what do you like more? controll it with stylus or the dpad?
Normally you have to expect that these games are perfekt for the stylus controlls, but in my opinion the dpad controlls it better or at least as good as the stylus

I must be pretty lucky because all of the games i have tried on my supercard cf work without a problem... oh and i do like the dpad better than the stylus for this game.

That happened to a friend with tony hawk skate.
He uses sc sd with sandisk 512 mbyte.
I tried it with my toshiba 512 and it was full and i had no slowdowns.
I don't know if sandisk are not performing as well as most people say.
By the way i would like to try this game even if i am not a fan of aoe.

this game isn't half bad for a turn based, but still much better when playing with friends. i like the fact that my soldiers get upgrades for free by advancing ages, or at least for my mongols

i havent played with all civs yet. anyway works fine on my m3 cf with fast boot trimmed rom and software reset. even though its trimmed, its still like 64 megs i think.

Hah, yeah, this game would be great with Wifi. I'm having fun just playing the tutorial. There is also alot of reading to be done in the Library(just go to the Empire Menu).

yeah.. and a game would've taken ages to play online..
anyways, I tend to use both the stylus and the D-pad.. you have to combine the two to get the most out of it.

I can't get this to work on SC SD with ANY options in v2.51. Can someone post the EXACT options you are using please?

EDIT: Actually I cannot get any of the latest ROMs to work - Age Of Empires, Rub Rabbits, True Swing Golf....I'm updated to the latest firmware also......hmm......HELP!

EDIT AGAIN: I'm a moron - the Supercard software doesn't tell you if the SD card is full (I have a 1 gig card). It acts as if it's copying the patched file to the SD card & you can choose the game in the SuperCard menu like it's really on the card. I moved some ROMs off of it & they now work....

I'm still using version 2.44 with standart options (only saver patch)
That's it. No problems

I have to say, that this game is realy time intensive.
Did you also need nearly 45 (virtual) days for the 2nd mission?

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
