Gaming My Window 7 lags help!

My computer will go fast as normal then it will start to lag randomly then go fast again. Can some help me because it could some take some time to go faster and it really annoying?

In addition to the maintenance guide... answer 3 questions: what CPU do you have, what HDD is it installed on, and is it a genuine copy of Windows?

All the software aspects that can cause lag are covered by the guide. My 3 questions covers the hardware and OS side of it.

If you're on windows 7 when you start the computer

Right click on the task bar
Select "Task Manager"
Click the "Show processes from all users"
Click the "Performance" tab
Keep this window open all the time
Click "Resource Monitor"
Click on the "Disk" tab
Have this window open all the time as well

When you see a 'slowdown' see if it correlates with a spike in CPU, or a spike in disk usage. If its a spike in CPU you can correlate it with a process in the Task Manager. If you don't see any CPU or memory weirdness, try looking in the Resoruce Monitor and see if any process is sucking up your IO. Also click the "Network" tab, and see if any process is pumelling your network card as ell.

I saw a spike in both

You need to find out what process caused the spike. In the Task manager you can sort the list by CPU usage. Put the highest usage at the top and look at what process uses all the CPU cycles,

System Idle Process is unused (idle) cpu, so the more that's "taking up" the better. Confusing, isn't it? Look for something else taking up CPU time.

If everything spikes at the same time, and there's no obvious process in the resource monitor that's active during the spike, then it's usually a clock spike that lags even the monitoring process. This can be caused be a mishandled error, and sometimes will create an entry in the error logs.

We still don't know what the specs are, so I can't tell if it's possibly due to a hardware fault.
