Higher framerates - bullshit as its exemplary from game to game
No, it depends on the specs of your PC. But if you run at low settings (which looks about the same as consoles), any respectable gaming PC can easily get higher framerates than a console. You really think that any current console can run a game with higher framerate that a GTX Titan rig running the same game at low settings? A GTX Titan can get 200 FPS in Skyrim maximum settings.
Still exemplary. Also, in case you don't know, most games are framelocked to 60fps. Still No Valid Point

Do you know what exemplary means? Also, this is plain false. Most PC games are not framelocked. I challenge you to refute that.

Shorter load times - bullshit, see above
My Kingston 128GB SATA III SSD says otherwise. I haven't seen a loading screen in ages?
Congratulations on having money. Still No Valid Point

Bullshit, see above? You have not refuted this point. Load times are faster on a PC, even without a solid state. With a solid state they're non-existent, an option you don't have with consoles.

-Unlimited backwards compatibility - bullshit, see above
Considering that I can still run PC games from the 90s on my Windows 7 PC, it is unlimited. And for even older games, there's something called a virtual machine.
Or Emulator, Or Virtual Console, as in "i can play all games on my emulator for my console". Still No Valid Point

Can you play PS1 games on the current PS3? No. Can you play Banjo Kazooie on the Wii's virtual console? No. I can play either of these things on PC, no problem.

-Higher quality sound - bullshit, see above
My Auzentech 5.1 dedicated sound card says otherwise.
You did not read my text above your list. Still No Valid Point

Bullshit, see above? Again, you have not refuted this point.

-Wider choice of peripherals - true but ultimately useless
What if I don't like the official company-approved controller?
You buy a 3rd party one. Still No Valid Point

Yes, but the peripheral options on a PC are limitless.

-Open platform - so?
Move to North Korea.
Is this even an argument?. Still No Valid Point

Again, you haven't refuted this point. So? Is not a refutation. A lot of us like an open platform, it means anyone can develop games. Do you think Minecraft would ever have come out on a console that charges $10k for their SDK? Nope.

-Cheaper games - bullshit, see first point
I got 10 AAA titles from $90 during the Steam summer sale. 10 AAA titles would cost several hundred dollars on consoles. And console games rarely go on sale. Never had a problem with Steam's DRM. And if you don't want DRM, you could just use GoG.com instead. They offer games 100% DRM Free.
Once again, thats exemplary. As is the first point as stated. Still No Valid Point

Again, you don't know what exemplary means, so I don't understand what you're trying to say. You haven't refuted the point.

-Digital distributions - are on consoles as well
Except that it digital distribution sucks on consoles and sales almost never happen.
This is just plain wrong. Still No Valid Point

Digital distribution on consoles is limited to the platform/store managed by the manufacturer. You have many options on a PC, whether it be Steam, Origin, Amazon, or any other seller.

-Freedom to upgrade - so?
What if I want my games to look better or want faster load times.
You need a shitload of cash. Still No Valid Point

You actually don't, depending on what you're upgrading. A stick of memory is fairly cheap. Still, the point is that PC gamers have the option, console gamers don't.

-Freedom to not upgrade - bullshit as you cant play new games with old pc
Overclocking and low settings. Will still play better than consoles.
Exemplary. Also not true with all games. Still No Valid Point

It is true. There are a lot of new games you can play, and you can extend the life of your PC by overclocking and adjusting settings, as said. In fact game developers usually try making the entry point into their new games as low as possible, because they understand that most people don't have a tricked out PC.

-Multitasking - bullshit, see above
You using your system in conjunction with a PC. So you need a PC to multitask with a console. Your argument is invalid.
No it isn't since I have to minimize the gaming window to work on both my screens anyway, which makes your point redundant. Still No Valid Point

Actually, you don't, you just have to alt+tab into the program on your other screen. With a modern PC this is trivial. Not to mention I can game while watching Netflix on the same device, which I do all the time.

-Multi-monitor gaming - so?
Superior experience.
Matter of taste. Still No Valid Point

True, it is a matter of taste, but the ability to have Netflix, a chat window, a browser open on another monitor is undeniably handy.

-Oculus Rift - so?
Superior experience.
Matterof Taste. Still No Valid Point

Again, the point is that PC gamers have the option if that's their taste.

-Emulators - bullshit, avilable on consoles as well
Except they run like shit. Show me a Wii emulator for PS3. And can you emulated PC games on consoles? I don't think so.
Bullshit most emulators run perfectly. Still No Valid Point

Uhhhh no. This is factually incorrect. Like the previous poster said, can you emulate PC games on consoles? Wii on the PS3? VirtuaBoy? No, no, no. No amount of whining will change that.

-Indie games - bullshit, available on consoles as well
Most indie devs develop for PC.
And consoles. Especially Wii U funny enough. Still No Valid Point

Again, wrong, because of the high entry cost for a console's SDK (especially PS3), whereas developing on a PC is FREE!

-Mods/Player-created content - usually suck, also works on consoles
Have you played Skyrim on a PC? Falskaar? It's a Skyrim mod with more content then the official DLC. Try getting that on a console.
Nope, have you played newer super mario bros on wii or the many smashb rothers brawl hacks? Still No Valid Point

Modding on the PC is much easier though, there are way larger communities, and many PC games actively encourage modding, so they aren't bug filled "hacks", they are fully supported, amazing mods. Many popular community mods are even bought by developers and integrated into the game.

-Work and play on the same device - why would i even want that?
You save time and money.
And how exactly do I save money? Still No Valid Point

The point is, even if you buy a console, you're gonna buy a PC anyway. If you're a PC gamer you just buy a PC.

-More genres available (MMO, RTS, MOBA) - bullshit, just different genres
Most console genres are available for PC. We just get some extra genres on top of that. Any we can also get any console game though emulation.
Same goes for consoles. Still No Valid Point

No, it's not the same for consoles. Consoles have no genres the PC doesn't or can't emulate. I've already rebutted your emulator argument.

-Games don't take up physical space - bullshit if I buy retail
The retail box will take up space.
So you acknowledge that? Still No Valid Point

Yeah if you buy retail then there's no benefit, but again, at least you have the option.

-Updates are push faster - bullshit, see first reply
PC updates don't have to be approved by the console manufacture. So yes, it's faster.
And yet they wait to release them to have them ready for consoles as well. Still No Valid Point

This is false, and makes no sense. For a game that is cross-platform, they wait for updates to keep a consistent user experience (so it's the consoles holding it up). For PC only games, the patches and updates come faster.

In the case of inferior console ports, community-created patches usually fix that and mods will improve the game graphically. At the end of the day, EVERY game I know is superior on PCs.
You don't know a lot of games then. Still No Valid Point

Can you name a counterexample?

And you complaining about HDD space? I though your "PC" can "max out" most games. How did you afford a high-end PC and not have enough money for an extra HDD?
because I'd rather spend my money on my projects and my music/videos rather than an HDD to play a game i can get for cheap on my console that plays it without any problems. Still No Valid Point[/quote]

Disk space on the PC is cheaper than on consoles...not only is it laughably cheap, once you fill your consoles HD you're SOL unless you want to fork over an exorbitant amount of money for an external. On a PC you just buy a new one and slot it in.

Whatever happened to the Nintendo situation conversation?

I have no effing clue. Suffice to say, the Wii U isn't going to fail like so many people are saying it is, because only one system has ever "failed", and that was the Virtual Boy. Will it succeed as much as the Wii, it's hard to say, only time will tell, because the big hitters are coming, but marketing needs to be improved as well.

I was calling him a moron because he doesn't know what exemplary means, yet he was using it in his argument.

That still doesn't justify it. There are better, far more mature ways to convey disagreement than by being rude.

Good hell, man, stay on topic and drop the damn PC argument already. We get it, PCs are superior and all that bullshit. Knock it off.

I do agree with that. Nintendo should be pouring loads of money into "IN YOUR FACE" advertising. Get the message out that Hey The Wii U is here and it has great games for it at a good price.

To add to the Nintendo situation conversation. I think the damage has already been done and won't recover. It's at the point where Third-party developers are extremely hesitant to release games for Wii U because when they do, regardless of how good the game is. They don't make their money back. Since the Third-party developers aren't making their games for the Wii U, less people are buying a Wii U. Because less people are buying a Wii U, First party games aren't selling as well as they should of. It's a vicious circle that can no longer be mended.

It's too early to pass judgment, the big titles haven't been released yet, but the Wii U isn't going to fail like the Virtual Boy, we can be sure of that. Yes, it's a tough spot for Nintendo, I won't deny that :P

However it is still a fact that even though it is not selling greatly it IS selling rather consistently. So each week more and more and more are getting out to the homes. It may be a slow climb but I think that not too far off there is going to be a big turn around, and then a price change which will also give it a boost.

The Wii U has great games? I can count the number of must-own games for the Wii U off of the fingers of one of my hands.

could you list a better example?
MMOs like league of legends and Dota2 are very bad,IMO.
i can see why people play them, they are quite interesting, but not very interesting to me....

This... Just.... No.
Get the genre right before you comment about it.

Although there seems to be a tone of "Nintendoomed" accross the internet, look at the 3DS sales figures, it has only been about 2 years i believe and the 3DS already had 33 million sales, that's 1 THIRD of the sales of the Wii, assuming that it would have a consistent amount of sales for the next 4 years, it will of reached the same amount of sales as the Wii, though ofcourse Pokemon has not even been released for the 3DS, so we can see how successful it is going to be (Though most importantly, how successful it already IS!!!).
Also the whole 'Streetpass is dead everywhere except Japan was a thing I thought too, but for over a month now I've been recieving 4+ streetpasses a day and each time a bring my 3DS to my local shops, I get a streetpass hit and the shops aren't even crowded.

I gotta say, I enjoyed all the uninformed PC bashing that happened in here. Yeah, PC master race people may be annoying, but they do have a point. Coming from the perspective of someone who only really discovered the convenience of PC gaming recently, I can say without a doubt that, if consoles didn't have exclusives on them, there would be absolutely zero reason to purchase them. As it stands, I'm finding it harder and harder to justify buying a newer console anymore. I mean, hell, I use a four year old laptop that was only good for medium to low settings for games that released during the same year it did, yet, I have more fun with the games I have on this than I do on, say, my 3DS, or, well, I don't actually own any home console newer than the PS2 at this point, so that's kind of irrelevant. Plus, those Steam sales, hot damn. I've built an 80 game collection, and I haven't even spent $40. I can't do that on a console.

So, tossing in my two cents, undeniably, PC gaming is the superior path. Honestly, after this next generation, I wouldn't be surprised if home consoles became redundant. Except for releasing slightly shinier exclusives, I find it hard to justify the purchase of any next gen home consoles at this point, whether it's a Wii U, a PS4, or a Xbox One. The only new things they bring to the table are things your average PC has been able to do for years. When consoles are essentially just trying to be PC's, why the hell are we still bothering buying stunted PC's for a small handful of exclusive titles?

With that said, to stay relevant in this thread, the Wii U is not going to do a spectacular 180. It'll probably shift about 75 degrees and improve, but it isn't going to do a complete turn around in sales. Nintendo first party titles don't move systems like they used to. They pretty much feed off the install base that's already there because most people who are invested in getting the first party titles would already have bought a Wii U prior to the games releasing. Essentially, they'll only move marginally more systems than usual because the bland weekly sales are exactly those who are only buying for the first party titles anyways. As silly as it might sound, your weekly sales are essentially the systems that are being moved because these first party titles will exist. They're the guaranteed games, and people know that. It's not a surprise when a new Zelda is announced, or a new Mario whatever. You don't have to wait for an announcement like you have to with third party exclusives. Most of the time, you'll only know a third party exclusive is coming maybe a year before its release. You'll only really be stacked with details and deal making gameplay likely within the last couple of months prior to release. With first party games, you know they're coming at some point, and you have a pretty good idea of what you're getting. It doesn't require a lot of convincing, great contemplation, or the like. It doesn't require you putting off buying a Wii U because you don't know for sure if those games are coming.

I figure that Wii U sales will sit snug probably around 25 million total at the end of its life time. Not necessarily a flop, but not a number to be proud of either.

This... Just.... No.

Most people who say Nintendo is doomed are joking. It's just kinda fun to poke at their lackluster console sales that have been pretty consistent over the years. We know their portable line will sustain them. Each new iteration is immensely popular, even with the growing popularity of phones, that, quite frankly, are more powerful and possess much more potential in the long run. Unlike phones though, a 3DS isn't an expendable piece of hardware. It isn't something you'll replace next year because that new model has a slightly shinier back and two new features for only another $200 than the last. Plus, it's a dedicated portable gaming machine. Thankfully, it doesn't seem smart phones have much of a gaming capacity to go beyond capturing the casual market (which, somewhat ironically, is what stole away the Wii crowd).

As for Streetpass, Nintendo has acknowledged that compared to Japan, it's pretty dead, at least here in the US where they've made it a point to modify Nintendo Zone locations to spit out streetpasses of people who had simply been there previously. When the company has basically acknowledged fully that Streetpass isn't working as they intended, you can no longer argue about how successful it may or may not be.

By the way, for anybody that may think to reference that profit sheet that shows how much money Nintendo makes compared to Sony and Microsoft:
Take your biased stats and stuff 'em where the sun doesn't shine. Nintendo exclusively makes games. Literally, the only way to make it in the red is if both their portable line and console line have bad hardware sales, while simultaneously, they would need to be suffering in terms of software sales. That isn't even counting the amount of official merchandise they must push. On the flip side, Sony and Microsoft are both heavily invested elsewhere. If one or two of their departments start flailing, it could have a significant financial impact on the company as a whole, where as Nintendo is pretty safe, keeping their company in the confines of a single market. You can compare hardware and software sales, but you can't compare plain money amounts. It doesn't work.
