My 3DS review.

So 2 days ago I got my self a Cosmo black 3ds from best buy along with Samurai Warriors. The reason why I chose this game is that despite the bad reviews it received, it is the only game I can see myself playing. Street Fighter at the Kiosk seemed ok, but not great. Maybe my expectations were too high, but my impression so far has been pretty bad. Although 3d without glasses is pretty cool, it gave me headache after an hour. Of course, I turned the 3d off, but that just seemed like such a waste considering that it is a major part of the system. It's like having the option to turn off the touch screen on a DS... what makes it special anymore? I know that launch titles suck and I have to wait, but the main reason I got it early is to see the potential, and so far what I've seen is that I have to turn the 3d feature off most of the time. If Nintendo spent this time on something that would be a lot cooler, (ie. making a powerful handheld that could do NGC on virtual console) that would be something that I respect a lot more. However, 3ds so far seems like a slightly upgraded DS to me, because I turn the 3d off completely most of the time.

I really don't care for the 3D that much. I use it like 50% of my playing time.

But it doesn't matter how many new features or whatever it has, it's the fact that it can play new games (Well, as of now, that's kind of useless because all the games stink).

But, I'm still loving my 3DS, and it will only get better with Kid Icarus, Ocarina of Time, and the May update.

Honestly, I like the 3D effect. I turn it off when I'm on the run and stuff, but it's really enjoyable.

It not like you can take 3DS games in put it on a ds. Plus it has that motion sensors in it. Better wifi
support and other stuff.

This isn't just some slight upgrade.

For people 3D doesn't bother it brings a more naturally look to games that regular graphics can not.

Minus the 3D, the 3DS is still a huge improvement over the DS.
3D just makes games look worse, or no better at all. I never have it on because it's an absolute waste of battery life.

Excuse me? 3D bring depth and a natural look to things. That like saying the real world is worse.

Unless you saying ghosting than that the programmer fault or you not holding it right.

I'd rather play my games in graphics that more closely resemble our own world than in 3D. Would I rather have 3D characters that lack the same detail as real life or non-3D characters that contain more of the details in real life?

Really though, turning the 3D off on the 3DS isn't really like turning the touchscreen off on the DS since there are a pretty large amount of games that need the touchscreen. 3D is completely a visual feature and not a necessity to play any game on the system.

3D switch is to be fair for everyone from sight to battery. Other than that fact it would be on all the time. And no it not just a visual feature.

Haven't even seen it yourself to really judge.

Even Nintendo's most dedicated fangirls will acknowledge that the 3D, while possibly (in their view) the coolest feature in the world, is still completely aesthetic and improves the gameplay in no real way. If anything it "solves" problems that were solved years ago when 3D gaming (like 3D models and environments, not the 3D effect) was conceived.

And honestly, I can't see 3D adding anything but aesthetic value; I'm still waiting for the game which uses the 3D as a game changer.

I personally like the 3D. I don't play Samurai Warriors: Chronicles without it. Sure it's a gimmick, but it's a good gimmick. It looks nice IMO and I've never been a graphics whore so it's a super alternative. I mean, people say that graphics are supposed to evolve with new consoles and I can't deny that, because it's true. But the step from DS to 3DS sees a graphical evolution as well as 3D. You're getting the best of both worlds, in a sense. The NGP has supah dupah graphics and I'm still likely to get it at some point, but the obsession with seeing as-close-to-realistic-as-possible graphics in a game is something that just doesn't appeal to me as much as it does others. I prefer to take it slowly

At the end of the day, the reason we play games is for pleasure and enjoyment. If some people get that from seeing something that looks identical to the real thing in a videogame, then fair enough.
But some people get that enjoyment equally as much from a console that doesn't provide top-notch visuals and does something a little differently, for a change
