Come one, don't start another clone war, who is best, who is first, we don't care.
You had enough time to do that last year and in old threads.

Now if you could be informative and tell what works and what doesn't, that will help other users.

Is 1.2+1.3 working with 7.2.0? (of course not the eshop and settings)
(to update wiki. thanks)

Devs have already confirmed MT is a clone....

It doesn't take a dev to figure this one out. After all, they're using the exact same exploit, and their menu is strikingly similar to what Gateway has implemented. The only thing I'm saying is that the MT tam was the only one to make any kind of advance on their own, without outright cloning everything. Because of this, MT users avoided having their consoles bricked, which is a positive, for sure.

Whoops! Too late. This will be the last from me on that subject, though. Sorry!

all well and good but surely it would be better if they were not just rushing out update's to make it look like they are up to date with gateway......thats exactly what resulted in all the R4/3dslink etc bricks....alls it would take is another booby trap from gateway and we have brickgate 2.0 for MT users THAT is why its stupid that everyone is relying on the work of gateway, adding things like a different file extension isn't exactly advancing the code, and breaking the eshop support in the first place shows the MT dev's aren't as infallible as you seem to think......i just see things going the same way as the v1 clones, and if it does its not going to be pretty

sorry about that mods i will steer clear of any further posts lets all stay in happy happy land, lets just hope MT don't balls it up

That's still only a software update, though, since the hardware stays the same. Giving existing hardware new features via software upgrades does not equal hardware upgrades, which are new hardware revisions, with phisical changes in hardware design. Anyway, Gateway is still ahead with homebrew support, and even though I like the separate online save idea, I'm sure Gateway will implement it, if people really want it. It's not a sophisticated feature, after all. Still, good to see things progressing in the MT camp, as long as they're independent developments, not reversed Gateway solutions.

A FPGA (Feild Programmable Gate Array) such as in the gateway/MT card is a chip that's logic can be programmed. Normal processors can be programmed but the the logic of the chip itself is static (the code the chip runs is always run against the same hardware logic), FPGA's are ASICs (so far more optimised than code on a generic chip) but the logic is also updatable once they leave the factory.
So technically you are updating the hardware logic (how the chip actually functions) as well as (likely) the code that runs on it. It's somewhere in-between a firmware and a new chip.

If they used static ASICs instead of FPGAs then each release that currently needs to reprogram the FPGA would instead require a whole new cart.

I agree it's confusing; there has to be a better term than 'hardware update' which sounds like a new hardware revision you have to buy.
'Firmware update' for software updates, 'FPGA update' for ones that reprogram the FPGA and 'hardware udpate' or 'hardware revision' for whole new versions of the cart would be clearer. Then again these are chinese piracy groups so clear english terminology is not always their strong point :)

The launcher.dat is not really a firmware. It's the program/software loader (a homebrew), the one used to load games and patch System menus. this one is not a firmware update, but a Loader (or Launcher, to keep that reference) update.

The FPGA update is the firmware update of the card. (it's still a software update)

Hardware update would be a new hardware revision (new button to switch games, led, springloaded, etc.)

But the MTteam started to use the "software" and "hardware" references for loader and FPGA. that's what is confusing.

MT doesn't have to reverse engineer their firmware. A lot of their features are probably simple to reproduce if you have the idea already. For example, by looking at what Gateway is dumping in their 3dz files, they can reproduce support for 3dz without copying the actual gw firmware.

Doesn't matter. There will be those pro-Gateway people and conversely pro-MT people. All this discussion about clone and what nots all boil down to meaningless argument. Both teams have put out good work. At the moment, GW is slightly ahead. But don't forget, MT-card was ahead for a longer time especially when they were the only card with multirom for a period of time, since GW Omega, they are just slightly behind each GW update.

you are a beta tester?
and does work nand save games with a slow micro sd card?

It should work. If it doesn't work you either have a fake/faulty sd card OR its a bug with the launcher.dat.

It is also at the same time incredibly foolish to use a slow sd card for nand saving games, it just increases the save time by a significant amount.
